Its always about a girl
She was an acquaintance, she still is and I just hope she doesnt stay one forever.
We used to work for the same client until a couple of years ago, from different locations within India. Belonging to the same peer group, our interactions were mostly over phone and instant messaging. She was a breath of fresh air, always stood out with excellent technical and communication skills, good sense of humor and a sweet, sweet voice. It all ended abrubtly when she quit and went to work for another organization.
So one day when I got invited to go on a 5 day road trip with her, by a mutual friend, I had to say yes. I deperately needed a break for myself and the prospect of finally getting to meet one of the coolest colleagues that I'd ever had, got me really excited.
We drove across 3 states, Punjab,Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, with most of the time being spent in Himachal Pradesh which also happened to be her home state. For those who've never been to Himachal, I'd like to quickly state that its one of the most beautiful places on earth with the most wonderful people.
Anyway, moving on, she exceeded my expectations like it was nobody's business and I was completely blown away by the kind of character she was. What I already knew about her, or what I thought I knew about her, was as they say, just the tip of the iceberg. She was an accomplished woman, always in control of every situation and yet totally grounded and so very much in touch with her roots. Respectful at all times with every single person she interacted with, irrespective of their socio-economic backgrounds and not tiring once. A total outdoor person, with a slight inhibition towards water, not caused by fear but rather by a reluctance to get wet in clothes. She has a problem with the society we live in and with our politicians, like most of us do. The difference being that she is more vocal when compared to an average citizen. An independent woman with a voice. To be honest, sometimes she might come across as a rebel without a cause, but in a strange way, that would only make you like her even more.
Finally, I would also like to state for the record that she was one of the most beautiful Women I'd ever seen and trust me, even the great Himalayan mountain ranges in the back drop could'nt cause a distraction. She was smart, beautiful and funny and all that only being her less significant attributes, and guess what, she could also sing! Unbelievable, I know.
It was a pleasure getting to know her and those 5 days sure felt like a lifetime.
