I found my words through the words of others

I was searching through some of my old journals and found this- I was staying at a retreat (well, that is what we will call it). During this retreat, I had to take a class (that is what we will call it), and my teacher (you can call her that), gave me an assignment during my term (you get the point). The assignment was for me to tell her about me, using other people’s words.

This was what I turned in to her, and for some reason this assignment got me writing, my own words again and in away helped me keep my sanity-while I was dealing with life, even after I got home from my little ‘retreat’.

My life in the Lyrics

Blackbird singing in the dead of night-Take these broken wings and learn to fly-All your life-You were only waiting for this moment to arise. The Beatles, Blackbird

She said I don't know if I've ever been good enough -I'm a little bit rusty, and I think my head is caving in -And I don't know if I've ever been really loved -By a hand that's touched me, well I feel like something's Gonna give -And I'm a little bit angry. Matchbox 20, Push

I hurt myself today -To see if I still feel -I focus on the pain -The only thing that's real -The needle tears a hole-The old familiar sting -Try to kill it all away -But I remember everything -What have I become -My sweetest friend -Everyone I know goes away In the end -And you could have it all ,My empire of dirt -I will let you down -I will make you hurt. Johnny Cash, Hurt

That's me in the corner-That's me in the spotlight-Losing my religion-Trying to keep up with you-And I don't know if I can do it-Oh no, I've said too much-I haven't said enough. I thought that I heard you laughing-I thought that I heard you sing-I think, I thought, I saw you try. REM, Losing My Religion

Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes, and she's gone. The Beatles, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

Slow down you crazy child-You're so ambitious for a juvenile-But then if you're so smart tell me why are you still so afraid? Slow down you're doing fine-You can't be everything you want to be-Before your time-Although it's so romantic on the borderline tonight (tonight)-Too bad but it's the life you lead-You're so ahead of yourself-That you forgot what you need-Though you can see when you're wrong-You know you can't always see when you're right(you're right) You got your passion you got your pride -But don't you know that only fools are satisfied?-Dream on but don't imagine they'll all come true. Billy Joel, Vienna

Hey ! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me, I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to. Bob Dylan, Mr. Tambourine Man

When you feel your life ain't worth living, you've got to stand up and take a look around you then a look way up to the sky. Blind Melon, Change

I'll find my way through night and day, Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven. Time can bring you down- Time can bend your knees. Time can break your heart, have you begging please, begging please. Eric Clapton, Tears in Heaven

The deeper you stick it in your vein the deeper the thoughts, there's no more pain- I'm in heaven, I'm a god- I'm everywhere, I feel so hot- It's not a habit, it's cool, I feel alive- If you don't have it you're on the other side- I'm not an addict (maybe that's a lie)- It's over now, I'm cold, alone- I'm just a person on my own- Nothing means a thing to me
(Nothing means a thing to me) Free me, leave me- Watch me as I'm going down-Free me, see me- Look at me, I'm falling and I'm falling. K’s Choice, Not an Addict

I'm all out of faith, this is how I feel- I'm cold and I am shamed lying naked on the floor- illusion never changed into something real- I'm wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn. Natalie Imbruglia, Torn

I'm a picker I'm a grinner I'm a lover And I'm a sinner I play my music in the sun- I'm a joker I'm a smoker I'm a midnight toker I get my lovin' on the run ooo ooooo
Joker...The joker...
You're the cutest thing That I ever did see I really love your peaches Want to shake your tree. Steve Miller Band, The Joker

If you were told to describe yourself-thoughts-life using the words of someone else, how do you think you would do it? Is there a particular quote or lyric that fits your personality-life or situation?

this is amazing hub. compare between life and lyrics. Actually our life is like the missing lyrics. We have to find the other words by passing the day by day and the best experience in life is the best lyrics. are you agree with me?

What a beautiful sentiment. Its funny, we often talk of selling out or not being true to something. What more truth does one need than to have someone's work truly affect their way of life. Music does it for me every time.I write and perform songs and no one has ever dedicated a hub to me, but I could easily see myself writing a hub about some of the great's that are quickly slipping out of site. Thanks for being on the hub pages.

Thanks for your compliment. I would have to say that imagine and beautiful boy are two of my favorite songs of all time. I love Lennon- my brother John was born on Lennon's birthday October 9th- I was the only 10 year old that flipped out with excitement over this :D

Great hub. Thank goodness you found your own words again because they are very much worth reading. This is a good exercise for everybody. If I were to pick one off the top of my head for myself it would probably be Imagine, by John Lennon.

      Thanks Ken,

I hesitated pressing publish on this one, but I am still in the process of forgiving myself for all the stupidity Ive accomplished in my life. The depression was one thing-but I made a choice to treat the sadness with substances I wasnt able to control. I think I lost my mind and I know I had lost my ability to write-

it's amazing what having to come up with this did for me- other peoples words, allowed me to find my words again.

Thanks once again for reading and commenting on my hub

Good Hub. The soundtracks of our lives really do tend to speak volumes about who we are & what shaped us. And poets have a way of speaking truth about us that we cannot verbalize without their help. Thanks for sharing this.
