My Worst/Weirdest/Funniest Date Ever
I think that everyone has had a bizarre dating experience. One they wish they could forget but that unfortunately never completely leaves the brain; a memory that comes to mind at the worse possible time and hopefully brings laughter instead of tears.
You Had A Bad Date - Blind Date Anthem
I am definitely one of those people the victim of an over zealous aunt wanting to set me up on a blind date with her nephew through marriage. Yes I know this is already starting out on the wrong foot and it just gets worse as the story goes on.
I would truly call this experience weird, funny and worst all rolled into one. I was sixteen years old at the time and I believe he was eighteen years old. I waited at my aunt’s house for him to show up and when he did he brought his younger brother with him. “Oh boy this ought to be fun”. I thought to myself, but was not quite ready to throw in the towel yet.
Both were very good looking guys and somewhat nice while I sat and talked to them, getting to know them before we went out. He let my aunt (his aunt too) know exactly what we were going to do so that she would know where we would be. A nice gesture I thought at the time, although I would later learn that we were not going to do any of the things he mentioned. But we headed out anyway to start the date little brother and all.
First we went on a long drive talking some more, I noticed that his demeanor changed a bit from when we were talking at the house. He and his brother kept looking me up and down the whole time and after awhile it truly started to freak me out. I mean at first it was kind of flattering but then it just got down right creepy and just added to the weirdness of going out on a date with a guy and his brother.
While we were driving down the road my feet started to feel a little warm. I did not pay attention to it much at first. I just shifted my feet around a little bit but that warmth started to get stronger and stronger. I finally looked down at my feet and thought that I caught a flicker of flame (but that could not be possible or could it). I kept giving an occasional glance to the floor board of the car and then I saw it again it was a flicker so now I knew I was seeing flames. I started to scream because there was fire at my feet. Both guys looked at me like I was crazy and said, “Oh that happens all of the time just stomp it out”. This is when I began to lose it. This was not rational to me there are flames coming out of his car shouldn’t he be checking it out? I had no idea what was going on. I asked him to please pull over so that we could make sure that everything was alright and he slowed down to exit the freeway.
As we were slowing down from 80mph to about 40mph I saw something out of the corner of my eye on the side of the road it was actually partially on the road. It was not moving, just sitting on the side of the road and as we came towards it I started screaming again for him to watch out because it was a deer, luckily he missed it but they were both joking about how cool it would have been to hit it and I was not impressed at all.
So after we got off of the freeway we pulled to the side of the road and he and his brother checked the car and decided that everything was okay for the time being. They were nice enough to give me a bottle of water in case it happened again. We got back on the highway so that we could go to dinner. I was new to the area we were in and not truly sure where we were heading for dinner that was until they pulled up to the restaurant (if you could call it that). It was of course an eating establishment that I was familiar with, I mean anyone would know of it from that bright, shiny, huge, yellow letter. There was no mistaking those golden arches.
I again was none to happy when we pulled up to the restaurant and even more displeased when we headed through the drive thru. Now this was truly turning into one of the most romantic dates I had ever been on. And to make the night even better the flames were back and whipping at my feet while they were waiting in line at the drive thru. I could not take it anymore and I got out of the car so that I wouldn’t get burned since the water was doing absolutely nothing to douse the flames. There was absolutely no way I was getting back in the car at least not in the front seat. As we left the eating establishment I got into the back of the car and we headed to our next destination; a viewpoint. I was not sure why we were at this viewpoint especially since I was now in the back seat with the younger brother.
At this point I was completely done with the date and I simply asked if they could just take me home to my aunt’s house. It was a simple request but they did not want to go back yet. They still wanted to drive around in their flame mobile. So I insisted that the date be over immediately there was only so much I could take. They finally got the hint and drove back. I got out of the car but could not get away quick enough. I had to give them each a hug goodbye and the hugs lasted way longer than I wanted them too. The younger brother even tried to kiss me; it was like the icing on the cake.
Even though they were interested in going out again to somewhere different I politely declined.
Needless to say because of this date I now have an aversion to blind dates and cars on fire.
