Three Great Ideas For Planning A New York Theme Wedding, Pt. I Black, Silver & Red Elegance
Why A New York Theme Wedding?
Maybe it's the bright lights, maybe it's the hustle and bustle, Broadway, Times Square, or the beauty of Central Park that is the fascination with New York. Maybe it's the vendors on the street corners, ice skating at Rockefeller Center, the bright yellow and black taxis everywhere you look or the wonderful museums...or just maybe, just maybe, you met the guy or girl of your dreams there! Whatever the reason, if the two of you as a couple love all things New York, have you considered a New York-themed wedding? Well, start spreadin' the news...and let's get going planning a memorable wedding that will put all your guests in a "New York State of Mind!"
Plan To Suit Your Personality
Are you an Uptown Girl or a little more of a Brooklyn Babe? Do you think of the beautiful silvery views of the skyline or the bright, brash yellow and black of taxis when you think of New York? To cover all our bases, let's explore three separate themes: a black, white & red theme for those couples who are more Wall Street than Bleecker Street, a Steampunk yellow & black taxi theme, and a gorgeous turquoise and silver Breakfast at Tiffany's theme.
Black, white & red emanates elegance...it calls to mind tuxedos, beautiful roses, flickering candles, martini bars, and theatre lights. So with those thoughts fluttering though your already somewhat addled bride mind, this is a color scheme that is easy to style and thow in a little vintage chic while we're at it!
Save The Dates & Invites
Think about your favorite place in New York. Not so easy, right? What's is easy is choosing a New York-themed Save The Date, because there are so many places that are just a beautiful photograph waiting to happen there. Since you're going for a formal look, how about a gorgeous photo of the two of you in evening clothes near a famous New York landmark...the Fifth Avenue Clock or the Lincoln or Rockefeller Center?
Your invitations need to carry through with that formal look in elegant, black and white with perhaps a silver Edwardian font. If you do a black pocketfold, you could do the belly bands in red and add a rhinestone buckle for a bit of bling to tip your guests off to the formality of the occasion.

Decor For A New York Themed Wedding
Black, white, red & silver are easy colors to work with for wedding décor and have huge visual impact. Consider flowers with classic appeal, roses, white orchids, calla lilies and elegant vases such as classic Eiffel tower vases or tall trumpet vases. Remember, a little bling is eye-catching and gorgeous, too much bling is gaudy and unattractive. If you're using mirrors under your centerpieces, the reflection from votive candles and rhinestone strands is magnified, so use caution and don't get excessive with the decorating. An easy way to add bling to votives which is much less expensive than buying diamond wrap is to buy a roll of one and a half to two inch wide sequined banding and sew little sleeves that can be slipped easily onto the votives and off when you are finished with them, a great technique if you're renting or borrowing votives. You can make matching napkin rings with the same banding or use it on the edges of a DIY cake stand made from a large hat box bottom painted silver and one two to two rows of the sequined banding. The banding stretches which makes gluing unneccesary once you sew it together in a loop. Just make sure when you cutting it to length and sewing it, that you are accounting for the amount of stretch the banding actually has or your blingy bands will not stay up!

What's On The Menu?
Some foods that are considered classic New York faire are not exactly intended for a formal wedding or a sit-down dinner. However, a way to incorporate a little New York flavor is with a dessert buffet with selections from your favorite little cafes and bake shops. Keep the bling and elegance alive by draping your tables in shimmering organza or gossamer. Create fantastic looking cake stands to display goodies with inexpensive round silver trays glued to glass candlesticks and stacked one on top of the other. Glue cut glass plates to inverted water or parfait glasses with a good glass-friendly glue like E-6000 and guests will think you spent a fortune on your décor! Don't forget to add some tall flower arrangements or low votives to add interest to your table. Spray paint tree branches silver and add spray glitter, then sink into cylinder vases filled with diamond scatter for beautiful and unexpected treat holders.
