One Little Rose

One little rose

He stood on her doorstep with a single rose in his hand

His heart feels such passion for her that he finally took a stand

He dared himself to confess the love for her in his heart

So, there he stood at her door hoping for a light in the dark

Tapping gently on the door he waited for her

When the door slowly slide open, “Can I help you, sir”

Her mother asked him in a suspicious tone

“I’ve come to speak with your daughter if we may be alone”?

She saw the flower he held in his hand and replied,

“You are not worthy to pursue my daughter”, she sighed

The man hung his head as he turned to walk away

What she said was true but hearing it crushed him that day

As he walked down the steps he heard the daughter’s voice

“Wait”, she called out as she told her mom, “It’s my choice”

He stopped and turned to look at her, as he mom went inside

She could see the little tear that had yet to dry

“I’m sorry my mom is overly protective of me

But, she sometimes doesn’t know went to let me be”.

“I just wanted to see you”, he said as he wiped a tear from his eye

“I wanted to tell you that I love you”, he said with a heavy sigh

He stuck out his hand with the one little rose for his love

As he watched her eyes well up, he thanked the heavens above

“I would have given you twelve but I am, truthfully, too poor

But, here’s the one little rose that I could afford”

She took the rose from his shaking hand and smiled

“Come sit on the porch and talk with me for a while”

They sat on the porch and talked ‘til the setting of the sun

After her mom apologized for what she had done

For the mother had watched the gift her daughter got that day

And, she realized that her daughter had a love that would not go away

She brought them something to drink and there she left them alone

Knowing that true love have entered into her home

To: TheHopefulPoet, very life's philosophy is based in the poem. I've always wanted a woman to love me for who I am and would often fiend being poor to make sure a girl's interest was genuine.

One Little Rose captures the emotion of a pure and simple love. Very nicely done. I am curious...Is this fiction or straight from the pages of your own life story?

One little rose reflects my humble gifts. Soemtimes, they are rejected and sometimes, they find their home.

you know, W.K., You have a magical gift! To be able to capture one's mind by a three word title, and lead them gently into a beautiful place, ting it with sorrow and sweet pain, to yet lead them through it, to a place of joy and fulfillment is amazing. Simply lovely.

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful poem. As I read this I could feel the emotion of which you write and I could see the actions between the 3 people of which you write. I could feel the heartbreak of this man who would have gladly spent on million dollars on the woman whom he loved but spent what he had on a single rose. I could picture this man as his shoulders dropped when he turned to walk away from her door. Love isn't about how much you can spend on someone, it is knowing that you have given the best that you have to offer. Keep up the good work. I truly enjoy your writings.
