I'm Ready For An Affair

If a decade ago my friends would have told me that after finding the man of my dreams I would be happy to marry him - I would have agreed.

If they had also said that you would be delighted to bear him children - I would have again agreed.

If they had added that after the children and an odd decade of being married you would be ripe for romance and may be an affair - I would have laughed and said they were crazy.

I mean who would want to get involved in an affair when everything was going so well in the marriage? Now if they asked me the same question I will not laugh.

I might even hope for romance. So what does one do when the whole business of life and living takes over so completely that you have no time for each other?

You start an affair. With the one man in your life that you love beyond belief but can't seem to stand for more than 30 seconds before beginning to criticize. You bring back the romance in your lives.

What is it that first brought you together? How did the romance blossom then? Do you remember the first gift you bought him? The first kiss you shared? The first romantic getaway destination? Now is the time to bring it all back.

Here’s a few practical things that you can do to keep the romance going.

The Unexpected

Spell out “I love you” using rose petals on his den’s floor. The sheer silliness of the exercise will amuse him.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Book tickets to your honeymoon destination – make sure you arrange for the grandparents to baby sit as you take off for a well deserved holiday. Take a trip down memory lane and revisit all those places you had on your honeymoon. Also be sure to take home some new and wondrous memories.

The Embarrasing

When was the last time you sent flowers to him? We always expect to get flowers but don’t seem to understand that they will be just as pleased as we are to get some flowers delivered to them. Far from being embarrassed, which he will claim to be, he will be delighted. So get the florist to make up a huge heart out of red roses and have them delivered to his office.

The Quiet Time

Remember when you could just hold hands and stroll around in the park or garden while the world passed you by? I know you don’t have that much time to spare these days, but at least on a weekend try and make the time to head to a green patch with him. It will help you both feel more centered and collected.

The Chocolates

How can romance be sweetened without chocolates? It is impossible to think love with out candies. So have a box of his favorite chocolates gift wrapped and placed on his pillow. I’m sure he will love it, and you all the more.

Bringing back the romance takes more than the first flush did, but the bloom is well worth the effort.

Handing over your heart always works miracles.

Laila, right now with all the distractions I actually wish it was back to being just the two of us. We never seem to have time for each other.

Good advice cashmere, especially the chocolate bit. I should get my husband to read this - it works both ways, doesn't it? :)

Just reading this Hub put a warm smile on my face. I hope many, many couples will find it and act on even one suggestion. Romance comes so quickly and powerfully in the beginning, but needs nurturing to endure. Lovely.

Sabu, the times are what we make them. If you really want to do something, don't you find the time to?

And feline prophet, chocolates are to be shared...remember that Amul ad? A gift for some one you love!

Sally Thanks for dropping by. I hope so too.

hey it is eerie but guess what after two kids and a complete family and with my second one on her way to preschool i have actually started doing things again to rekindle the romance in our lives and that too effortlessly maybe because i am a diehard romantic the effort does not seem like an effort to me and these stolen moments with my hubby matter even more now because it is not like the earlier US without kids independent and free

I love this idea. After 7 and a half years my husband and I still text and write each other silly emails all day long. It's a great way to communicate without getting into all the responsibilities of the day.
