Updated on June 26, 2011

No matter if you are a native Londoner or a tourist, London always give people the feeling of romance. No wonder can London top the list of best cities to propose for marriage.

There are endless proposing possibilities that you can do in London. Be creative and find the best moment.

The City of Romance

There are so many things that you and your lover can do in London.

Whether you are a travelling fan, fashion fan or musical fan, you can always find something to do in London. Plan a culinary tour, weekend concert gateway or whatever excuses that you can think of, and take your partner with you as a secret trip!

Below are some highlighted locations for you to pop your question. Enjoy!

Location 1: Tate Modern

Tate Modern is a gigantic modern art museum located at the south of ThamesRiver. Its interior is so spacious as the building was originally an industrial building. You can find a quiet space pretty easily even with all the visitors inside. On the top floor of the building is a chic bar and restaurant overlooking the view of ThamesRiver and St.Paul’s Church. At night when lights are on, the view is just fabulous.

Book a table for dinner next to the floor-to-ceiling window to enjoy the magnificent view. It would be wise to book earlier and tell the restaurant about your proposing plan. The proximity of tables are quite close with each other, you might want to ask for a corner table for more privacy.

Location 2: Hyde Park

This magnificent park with hectares of greens and lovely chestnut trees provides you multiple scenarios to propose. The individual wooden benches located in the middle of almost nowhere in the park are lovely places to pop your question.

You can also contact local bakery shops to arrange picnic boxes for you. One of those are the Paul's Bakery. Their products are lovely and with 15GBP bakery goods, you can get a picnic box for free.

Another choice is to have somebody to play live music for you in the park! It would be perfect if you can play instruments like violin, but getting somebody to play for you is also as wonderful!

Provided the huge space, privacy is very high if you spend some time to locate the proper spot for yourselves. There are also loosen garden chairs available for you to use in the park as well.

Location 3: Fortnum and Mason

Fortnum and Mason is one of the most highly recommended spot for having an elegant traditional high-tea in London. Fortnum and Mason itself is a department store specialized in culinary products including high-end tea products and cutleries. On the top floor of the department store is the place where they offer high-tea from 1pm onwards. Do remember to book at least 2-3 weeks in advance requesting to sit in the lounge area. These seats have higher privacy than the other area of the restaurant.

The overall environment is cozy and delicate, waiters are well-trained and friendly. In times when they present you with the high-tea stand, the waiter will personally show you the selection of desserts on a tray and you can 2 pieces pick from there. How romantic would it be if you would have the ring ready on the tray and ask if your girlfriend would like to pick that one?

Location 4: Thames River bank

Lastly, you can't skip Thames River as one of the most romantic spot in London.

Along Thames River bank, you have many beautifully lined up historical artifacts served as the backdrop of your proposing. Pick the spot that you fancy the most, or meant the most for you too.

One of the less known yet very romantic spot, is the area right outside of Tate Modern. The atmosphere there at night is wonderful - peacefully decorated with dim light, while trees are surrounding you right in front of the Thames river.

Most importantly, you can use any part of the Thames River bank to propose for free!
