Stop Making Me Love You

Updated on March 2, 2012

S e c r e t s . . .

We always play by your rules, so I hide the real me.

Not allowed to tell the world you're the reason that I breathe.

How fair are you to force on me a love that sees no sun?

I brave every endless night alone and all undone.

You've cut my twisted heart out, tucked it in a secret box,

And concealing tangled splendor, I’m forever stuck and locked.

Heart-shackled in my breathless world, why, why do I not matter?

My endless search, a wretched ghost, wandering lost and shattered.

Why does my sweet heart count for less? This pain just has no end.

Why is my love worth second-best? Still farther I descend.

This heartache I must now protest, you know the part you’ve played.

Stop making me love you my love, for now I cannot stay.

Thank you sweet Sparrow. Love is both beautiful and sad. I love this song as well, it speaks to my heart, and I know it does to many others. Thank you so much for reading my poem, and for your comment.

Beautiful and sad. It sounds much like what I have been through and now have recently gotten free. I love the song, too.
