Summer Wedding Reception Ideas

Updated on March 9, 2014

Celebrating Sun & Love

Summer weddings have potential for endless wedding ideas, but with a little thought and proper planning, your reception will be remembered forever.

When we think of summer, we think of warm days and steamy nights, late night dances, and great seasonal food. Sunshine and laughter. And always, lots of fun.

Outdoor Reception on the Lake

A lake is a wonderful setting to have a reception. During the daylight hours, paddle boats can be brought in for adventure for the guests. Bread can be broken up and fed to ducks for great photo opportunities.

In the evening, perhaps a beach cordoned off for an evening swim and beach party. If there is a house or veranda present, maybe a dance floor with live band or DJ to dance the night away. Food can consist of barbeque or platters that move throughout the crowd.

Small Island Reception

A small island reception can really be something unique and special. Depending on the setting, a pirate themed island getaway can be a fun style for a reception.

Or perhaps bon fires with tiki torches to give a tropical wild feel to the guest. Food can consist of seafood fare with local white wines. Perhaps horn sections in the band to give that old Hollywood feel to the party. Whatever the decision, this reception will always be remembered.

Reception on a Boat

A boat reception can be a great way to have fun and set a comfortable time limit to the party. Perhaps a cruise around a local island or perhaps a point A to point B cruise is the right choice. A boat reception has many options especially when it comes to the vessel chosen for the reception.

Perhaps the bride and groom want a formal reception with food and wine served with toast from the appointed people. Or maybe a fairy type vessel with open decks and food set out for people to choose from when they decide to eat.

Receptions on the Beach

Beach weddings offer a myriad of options for fun and memories. Food can consist of a lobster bake with local fare such as corn and other seasonal vegetables. Perhaps a rented hotel front with patio and bar is the best option for that special day.

Games can be played, unique beach wedding favors are always loved, swimming in the surf is great, and of course sunset photos with a beautiful ocean backdrop always provide special moments for all.

In The Country

A country reception can really be an intimate way for the bride and groom to celebrate with family and friends. Perhaps a country setting with hay bales and barn decorations, or maybe a tented field with dance floor and tiki torches. Citronella candles can be used as wedding reception centerpieces and food options are really endless and open

To go along with the feel of country, perhaps a laid back dress code and informal proceedings are the right choice for this setting. DJs or, if possible, a live country band will round off the festivities. Whatever the setting, receptions are a great way to share fun and memories on such a special day.

These ideas are really nice. A reception on a boat seems cool.

You have some wonderful summer wedding ideas. I think the one I like the best is the beach wedding. It's got such a romantic feel to it.
