The Beer Goggle Effect

Updated on February 7, 2015

The Beer Goggle Effect

Long before I ever knew there actually was a science surrounding the phenomenom of the amount of beer consumed I was aware of the effect.

Many a time I entered a bar for a few beers. The girls in there were pleasant enough, pretty even but definitely not my type. By beer three they looked much better and by five they were beautiful. It was also apparent that the girl who had given me most attention was the most beautiful of all.

Happily I recognised this 'beer perception anomaly' for what it was...minor inebriation, and was always able to allow common sense play a role in whether I had a companion for the night, or longer.

There is a stage beyond the "beer goggle effect" and that is 'beer blindness' and there things can go very much awry leading to that all to awful awakening moment "ohmygosh did I really!"

Beer Goggles

But it is actually a Science!

It was very much later that what I and so many had and continued to experience after a few drinks was actually a subject of a scientic study.

It is all caused by an area of the brain called the Nucleus accumbens and there is a scientific formula to describe the effect.

ß = (An)2 x d(S + 1)

0ver..........................

√L x (Vo)2

It seems to work as well with women as it does with men. The research was financed by an eyecare firm...who do not, as far as I am aware make beer goggles.

Beer Goggles!
