Things to do for an anniversary
Anniversaries are wonderful opportunities to reconnect with your spouse, but so often, the planning becomes a chore that can take away from the joy of the anniversary celebration. We worry so much about how to spend this special night that we lose sight of the moment. Here are some great ideas for things to do for an anniversary so that you can stop worrying about the what to do, and just get ready to enjoy the time you will spend together.
Schedule a class with a chef and prepare a great dinner together. During the planning, pick dishes that are both fun and easy. You may also look for something that is a bit sensual (remember it is you anniversary). Have the chef help with a wine pairing and enjoy a wonderful meal that you prepared together. This anniversary date will certainly lead to some additional heat once you get out of the kitchen!
Diner and a movie - a unique approach
Find a cozy romantic local that you can rent for the evening. Set it up it up with a DVD projector and hire a caterer to bring in diner. Find a movie you both love or wanted to see and enjoy your private screening complete with gourmet meal. Not only will you have a great, romantic anniversary date, but it will make a wonderful memory.
Revisit your first date
This option is as sentimental as they come. Plan and recreate your first date. Go to the same places, do the same things, enjoy the same restaurant all in celebration of your anniversary day. There is nothing that will bring you closer than a remembrance of how you got together in the first place.
Hot air balloon ride
If you are looking for a really interesting thing to do for your anniversary, try a hot air balloon ride. This date will have a bit of adventure and it will be incredibly romantic as you look down from your elevated view. Take some Champagne for a toast, and enjoy a ride that will be remembered from now on.
What is a shoulda day you may be asking? A shoulda day is a day spent doing all of the things you both have been talking about. Things you should have done (shoulda). Spend a day enjoying a restaurant you should have always tried, or going on a hike you should have always taken. Rent a row boat in the park you should have spent more time in, or heck, go skydiving because you should have always done that. Your anniversary day will be incredibly special as you build new memories doing the things you shoulda always done.
A dance class
This one is often a bit of a sacrifice for the men, but dance lessons can be a great thing to do for an anniversary. Yes men, you may not want to dance, but you will be surprised at the intimacy of the dances. From the Tango, to the Mambo you will be moving and shaking awfully close to your honey. In the end, the sparks will be flying.
An amusement park
Alright, hold on to your option before you pass judgment here. An amusement park is a great way to spend an anniversary for a number of reasons. First, it is a great way to rekindle a bit of your youth. What is more fun than walking the midway holding hands and deciding on which ride is next. The lights, the sounds, the fun all conspire to make an amusement park a unique experience, and one that is unconventionally romantic. You will talk about this one long after the glow of the lights is gone.
A wine tour may be a bit easier to arrange is some parts of the country, but there are wineries sprinkled throughout the world. Don’t assume that because you happen to reside outside of California or in Bordeaux, France that you can’t arrange for a fabulous anniversary wine tour. Do a bit of research and find a winery or two in your area and arrange for a private tour along with a tasting. If you are lucky enough to have several wineries in the area, hire a car and stop by each of them. With a bit of planning, you can probably arranger for behind the scenes tours as well. This is one idea that is fun for a couple, but can easily work for a group as well. If you are so inclined, you can bring a couple of friends to celebrate your anniversary with you as you enjoy the wines throughout your region.
Alright, this is kind of an easy one, but a couple’s spa weekend can be one of the all time great things to do for an anniversary. The men may be a little slow to accept this option, but ladies, once you talk them into it, they will be thanking you. Sharing a couple’s massage or even working out together will be a great way to reconnect and remind each other why you are together in the first place.
If you live anywhere near the mountains (or even if you don’t) find a mountain cabin for the weekend. There is perhaps no better place to spend your anniversary than in the beauty of nature, particularly when you do so in the luxury of a modern, mountain cabin. Imagine waking up to the cool mountain air as you sip coffee on the deck overlooking the best nature has to offer. If you are looking for things to do for you anniversary, you may have a tough time beating this simple, yet memorable weekend idea.
Regardless of what you ultimately decide to do for your anniversary, the single most important thing is to be thoughtful. These ideas certainly fit that bill, but in the end, what you are really looking for is time together to reflect on each other.
