Updated on November 11, 2016

Fun and Affordable Wedding Favor Ideas for a Barn or Farm Theme Wedding

Are you planning a wedding or wedding reception in a farmhouse, farmyard, beautiful barn or on a sprawling lawn in a beautiful natural setting? Considering a wedding set under the open sky rather than a hotel roof? If you are, traditional candy wedding favors probably aren't for you. Read on, bride-to-be!

Unique, themed wedding favors can leave guests with fun memories of your special day. For decorations, unique wedding favors contribute to the overall look of your tables or could even be the main theme at the tables. Keep your wedding favors original, fun, affordable and make them eco-friendly when possible! I have compiled a list of fun wedding table favor ideas that will work with a farm or barn wedding theme.

Themed Weddings are a wonderful way to express yourself and ensure that your guests have an incredible experience full of unique memories. Beach themed, Carnival themed, French themed, Circus themed, farm themed.... the list of possibilities go on and on. Theme weddings also allow you to get creative and make your own decorations and wedding favors and this can make planning and paying for your wedding more fun and more affordable!

1. Maple Syrup or Honey Wedding Favors

For the honey or maple syrup, go to your local farmer's market or your sugaring neighbors and buy maple syrup in bulk! Yay for supporting local agriculture!

For a modern and minimal (yet still quaint at the same time,hmm...) feel for your table , you might want to consider pouring your honey or maple syrup into test tubes! Lots of websites sell test tubes and corks. Depending on your budget, you could tie these together with raffia and offer a selection of the different types of maple syrup , putting little stickers on top to denote which type each tube has.

You can find virtually any type of storage jar for your maple syrup wedding favors - get the kind that works for your decor and budget (also, if you are going to have a lot of children present you may want to consider going with plastic)...

2. Seeds

Although any kind of seeds would be a fun and wonderful - a mixed assortment of wildflower seeds wrapped in burlap and tied with raffia would make a really nice favor for your guests to take to their homes. The Vermont Wildflower farm sells large bags of mixed wildflower seeds and I have personally been there so I can vouch for their quality seeds and friendly service! You can buy burlap online or at your local hardware store.

3. Plant Peat Pots of Rosemary!

Rosemary, an herb associated with faithfulness and luck in love, has long been used at weddings to bring good tidings. You could plant peat pots prior to your wedding and grow them (which could be a calming ritual for your to combat pre-wedding jitters) to give out as good luck favors at your country wedding.

4. Share Recipes

What better favor to give at a farm wedding than the gift of good food? Share a few of your family's and the in-laws' favorite recipes with your guests by making this Martha Stewart craft for your wedding guests!

5. Fancy Bug Spray

If you and your guests are going to be outdoors for long, a practical and MUCH appreciated wedding favor will be bug spray. You can make non-toxic bug spray and pour into tiny spray bottles you purchase. Come up with a fun label for the bottles!

6. Re-usable Farmer's Market / Grocery Bags

Depending on your budget, you could buy tote bags at a craft or department store and using a DIY Stencil method from Martha Stewart again (the genius of craft!) , print a cute design on them. You could then fill them with your seeds, recipes, bug spray, honey and maple syrup to give guests a really wonderful favor that they get to take home with them and reuse over and over again.
