What Is Love? Define Love!

Updated on April 10, 2012

What Is Love? Can You Buy It?

How does anyone define love - how do YOU define love?

Is it that warm fuzzy feeling in the pit of your stomach, that tingle you feel when you look into their eyes or touch their hand? Is it that silly little smile that stretches across your face when you think of them or hear their voice?

Is it the gift they gave you or the flowers thrust in your hands? Is it the money they spend on you, or the precious stone set in a band of precious metal? Is it the sweet words whispered in her delicate petal shaped ear, or the stroke of a soft feminine hand trailed through his hair?

Is it the time he spends beside her bed as she lies there struggling to return to him after a stroke, or the loving sponging as she cools his fevered brow while he fights the raging infection within his body?

Is it the all night vigil she lovingly spends watching over her baby as he sleeps inside the tiny incubator precariously hanging onto his thin thread of life? Is it the nurse who comes in touching her shoulder gently and handing her a warm mug of sweet tea?

Is it the parents firmly setting an unpopular boundary for their children, suffering their indignation but knowing it is for their good? Is it the father who paces the floor at night rocking his little son trying to bring up painful wind unsuccessfully?

Is it the parents who daily go to work to earn money to pay the bills for their family when they dream of other things and times?

Is it the man who throws himself at the child just about to step into the path of an oncoming truck?

Is it the man who did no wrong but died in place of sinners?

Can you find it outside of men and women?

Can you buy love?

What do you think?

Love is...

Love is patient, love is kind. Love is not jealous, or boastful. It is not proud or rude.

Love does not demand its own way.

Love is not irritable, and its keep no record of wrongs.

It finds no joy in injustice but rejoices in the truth.

Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful and

endures through every circumstance.

Love will last forever...

There are three things that will endure -

faith, hope and love -

and the greatest of these is love.

Love is...

Love is Giving Up Your Life...

Greater love has no man than he lay down his life for his friend...

...when a firefighter risks his life to save a stranger from being engulfed by the flames

...when a woman and man get married and give up their single life

...when a woman gets pregnant and risk her body for her child

...when parents raise a child putting their life ahead of their own

...when Jesus died on a cross instead of mankind

Love is giving of yourself in some way or another in deference to another. It is putting someone else ahead of yourself without sacrifice to either.

Love is trust. Can you love someone that you do not trust? Yes, but do you share with them as you would freely someone you truly trust and love - no, perhaps not.

Trust allows openness and honesty, allows one person to give themselves to another. Trust involves listening and hearing what the other says both with their words and their heart. Truly listening builds trust.

Loves requires demonstration and is expressed through five languages:

- giving gifts - generosity

- words of encouragement

- acts of kindness

- quality time especially listening

- physical touch and hugs

Love for couples -

Love is truth, love is trust, it is giving up on our single or past life, and building into the life of another and into the life of a marriage and future together.
