What is it Like to be Vulnerable?

One heel free

Not to be immersed

In the Styx sea

Achilles was immortally endorsed

Yet a mortal hero of the Trojan War

Achille’s misfortune, he became cursed

An arrow of poison smeared

And pierced his mortal heel

His debt and his peril ensured

Achilles naked vulnerability

The underbelly of one’s susceptibility

….vulnerability is scary, but pure. In it you can find bravery….

— Racquel Franco

When you shut the door

You close my openness to you

And breed Myrrh

The abstruse thing due

About mine and your vulnerabilities, are

We need to see if the soft spots are true

With my insecurities

I am willing to show you

My soft spot sensitivities

Achilles naked vulnerability

The underbelly of one’s susceptibility

….vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they are not a weakness…

— Brene Brown

I

t’s funny, when I see your underbelly

I see it as something

Courageous and valiant, steady

With the underbelly pumping

It can be shaming

All born from jabs and taunts thumping

You are too soft shaping

You are not good enough

The whispers of those who “know better”, saying

The need to see your unmasking

Is an unsaid want

So that I can trust you lasting

I want to be your heart

I want to belong

Yet, I need to become my own lot

Being open is an uncomfortable art

So, don’t make me feel flawed

Or, a shamed tot

Love does not hurt

Yet, you withhold and withdraw

And make out my belonging is a tort

Hold me

Rest and play with me

Be not held up with false agree

I need you to be strong as a Willow tree

So, I can ask you for what I need

And you will not flee

Are nakedness and betrayal

The vulnerability that glues?

Or, is it the feeling of duty and fatality?

When you and I stop trying to a view

I know it’s finished

Why can’t you travel down the “no” avenue?

Quantity breeds an intimate ruse

Whether it is a ruse for us, family,

Creativity or self-care

Achilles naked vulnerability

The underbelly of one’s susceptibility

What mask do I need to let go of?

See results

We are born to love

Don’t shame me to

Control and bend me to be your behove

Don’t withdraw and silence my due

Your personal attacks

Is not your vulnerability spewing?

Being open too quickly is a lack

Real intimacy is to be born

One brick at a time with a come back

Achilles naked vulnerability

The underbelly of one’s susceptibility

Show up consistently

Patience born and shared

I do not owe you infinity

I won’t be open with people undeclared

Or, when my stomach pains

A curdling scream unprepared

The chimera of my soft spots

Differs depending on whom

I share the dots

Achilles naked vulnerability

The underbelly of one’s susceptibility

Yes we all have our Achilles Heel. Some are just able to hide it better than others.

A big one and you express it quite well in poetry. I think it's a great poem or poetry in different sections.

I feel that all of us humans are vulnerable in one form or another, even though not to the same degree. A perfect Soul is a Soul at one with God. Few are.

Vulnerability exposes us and makes us uncomfortable, shows us up for who we truly are. We can learn from it. No bad thing. Excellent Hub!
