Why do girls like bad boys: Reasons why women date jerks and not nice guys

Why do girls like bad boys? Why do women date jerks and jocks? Is there a reason why nice guys are overlooked by girls in a class? Why do women fall into relationships with bad guys? It is a myth that girls only want to go out with the bad boys. Nice, good and decent men can be equally handsome and attractive but confidence, lies, fun, romance and excitement are some of the things that can tilt the balance – especially when it comes to asking a girl out on a date.

1) Blame it on biology: Just like how men like bad girls

Before men start blaming women for going out with jerks, they should ask themselves the same question – Why do men like bad girls? Would a guy turn down a date with a seriously attractive bad girl?

It is the overall charm, body language, attractiveness and appeal of a bad boy that sweeps a woman off her feet. Don't think of this as the woman approving of a guy's bad behavior.

2) Bad boys make the chase and ask girls out

Girls are more likely to go out with bad boys simply because bad boys make the chase and ask a girl out directly without being nervous about it. Good guys on the other hand are not likely to chase a girl and woo her by all means possible.

A girl may not necessarily be looking to date a bad guy but it may be the case that she was asked out by a jerk before the good guy could make his move.

3) Bad boys carry a lot of confidence

Whether it is about impressing a girl at the mall or attracting a woman on the beach, confidence plays a crucial role in bringing a guy and a girl together. Self-confidence makes a guy talk, walk and behave in a more attractive way.

Bad boys are generally brimming with self-confidence which is the reason why they are smooth talkers and masters of most social situations.

4) Being the envy of other girls: Dating the guy most girls have a crush on

The alpha male in a class or a group of friends could be the guy that most girls want to be seen with. This passive sense of jealousy and envy can attract a girl towards a bad boy.

A girl will feel that she is indeed, the prettiest girl in her group of friends if she can go out with the guy that every other girl drools about.

Bad boys know how to live it up and have fun.

5) Bad boys make for fun and exciting boyfriends

The definition of fun is highly subjective, but bad boys are more likely to do things that are considered fun and exciting in popular culture. For example, a bad boy is likely to be found in a nightclub on a Friday night rather than being spotted in a theater watching a play.

Girls like the fun and exciting appeal of going out with a bad boy who likes going to parties, hanging out with different people and doing anything but staying indoors at home.

6) Bad boys know what they want: They don't fall in the friend zone

A bad boy, typically known as a jerk, knows what he wants when he is with a girl. He will make it very clear to the girl that his feelings for her are not that of a friend. And if he sees that he is falling into the friend zone, he will instantly do everything necessary to get out of it.

A shy guy may fall into the friend zone because he fears speaking his heart out. This is the reason why many guys become friends with their crushes and by the time they gather the courage to ask her out, a jerk comes into the picture and starts dating her.

7) Peer pressure and the passive effect of a bad boy's dominating personality

Imagine a typical situation in a classroom where a pretty girl is asked out by the most attractive guy in class, who is the captain of the school's football team. He is the guy who gets respect from all his mates and he is also the boy who every girl secretly crushes on.

This will put an unusual amount of pressure on the girl because she will fear becoming a social outcast if she turns down the most popular guy in her class. This passive sense of a bad guy's dominating personality and the resulting peer pressure may be just the persuasion a girl needs to go out on a date with him.

8) Bad boys are not shy of wooing a girl with flowers and gifts

A bad boy will not shy away from giving a girl a gift, whether it is a bunch of roses or a cute little arm band. A shy guy on the other hand, will think twice before pulling off such a move. He may be blocked by the fear that a girl will reject his proposal and his gift.

This sense of casual gifting even when a guy and a girl are still in the flirting phase, can make the girl swoon over his gentlemanly manners. Which woman wouldn't love to be greeted with a beautiful rose while being charmed by a seemingly genuine and handsome guy on the first date?

The guy her mother warned her about.
The guy her mother warned her about.

9) Dating a guy her mother warned her about: Having the forbidden fruit

Why does a small child always try to reach out for the hidden box of candies? It is because the toddler has been told not to eat candies. It is human nature to try to do things that are forbidden.

The same psychology may kick in when a mom tells a girl to stay away from a guy that she is friends with. The very fact that her mom has forbidden her from dating him will make the whole idea of sneaking out with him very exciting and romantic.

10) Women feel safe and protected with a bad boy

Bad boys have a tough guy image which makes people stay away from messing around with them. A girl will naturally feel protected around her man if he seems like a guy who can handle any trouble.

This sense of protection gives women one more reason to like bad boys. It is not one of the critical reasons why a girl starts dating a bad guy, but it has a subtle and passive effect on how she feels when she is with him.

11) Girls like bad boys because they have the means to have fun

Dating a bad boy can be extremely fun because these guys generally have the means to have fun. This includes money, friends and an exciting social circle. Bad boys will have the right contacts to get into the most fun parties and their friends will be equally cool.

A bad boy may mislead a woman by hiding his true intentions for a relationship.
A bad boy may mislead a woman by hiding his true intentions for a relationship.

12) Bad boys may mislead girls sometimes: Faking love for lust

A jerk will do anything it takes to get what he wants, including lying, deceiving and cheating. He will act romantic and mushy even if all he wants to do is bed a woman.

A good guy will never want to betray a girl's feelings. If his attraction towards her is nothing but sexual, he won't lie to her. He will not say that he loves her while having a malicious personal agenda.

A girl may be oblivious to a guy's real agenda when he asks her out. A bad guy could be wooing a woman by misleading her to believe that he has the most genuine crush on her, when he wants to do nothing but have a sexual relationship. He will keep this a secret from his girl.

This article must be aimed towards teens and young adults, because mature women don't go for the badass boys, they learned their lessons the hard way. I used to be one of those bad ass boys BUT then I realized its all just a stupid game/show to impress others because you have no self identity, rather than be who you really are in person, so I became a more balanced man and stood up for what I believe in and simply ignored/bypassed what I feel isn't worth the energy.

Well reasoned out, Princess! I've always also believed that many girls/women are natural-born 'reformers' and they are certain that the bad boy will change into a great boy because of their personal support and influence. Thanks for addressing this important cultural issue ... Annie.

This is a nice write up. Girls do like something out of the ordinary; that may explain why girls dates such characters. But its all part of the game

This is the best "Why do girls fall for the bad guys" article I have ever read. These reasons are often left out. The ones I have read have more negative things to say about the girls. Being a female, I know that women can discover later in a relationship that a guy is all wrong. Women do not usually approach guys for dates; instead, the guys usually approach them. My generation was taught not to approach guys, but wait for them. Waiting to be asked won't always land a girl what she wants. Craftier girls know how to attract the guys they want, but woe unto the shy ones!

      Great hub!

Hi princess! I agree with jericoho911, seems pretty on point. There is something about a bad boy. But as always, the reality is that a bad boy isn't often marriage or boyfriend material unless he has an equal good boy balance going.
