Women In the Early Church
In Women of Spirit:Female Leadership in the Jewish and Christian Traditions by Rosemary Ruether and Eleanor McLaughlin it states: " Historians of Early Christianity generally fail to notice the important role women played in founding and promoting house churches. Since the house church was a decisive factor in early Christian's development, it provided the leadership and determined the form of church life." Priscilla served as a leader with her husband Aquilla. In I Corithians 16:19 it states," The churches of Asia salute you, Aquilla and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is their house." (KJV) According to the book of Acts 18:24-26, "And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures came to Ephesus. This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. And he began to speak bodly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla has heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.
My thoughts are because both Aquila and Priscilla taught Apollos this shows that women could teach men in the early church. I pray this will encourage any woman who has been wrestling with her called to preach. God will use women, he used them in Biblical times and he is still using them today, Accept your call, and God will fight your Battle!
