You Know You Are Best Friends For Life When.....

Updated on July 17, 2016

You Tell Them Everything

It's common knowledge that if you tell me something, my best friend will know it too. It's an unspoken rule, completely something to expect. Whether she knows you or not, she's going to know your drama and/or life story and secrets.

You Would Take Away Their Pain

Periods suck. Period. Sometimes, you gotta make sacrifices for those you love the most.

You Put Down the Ego and Step Up

When your friend is in need - it doesn't matter how mad you are at them, you are there. It doesn't matter how many miles, you make the trip. Because the rule of friendship is to be there when your friend needs you most.

They're Totally Riding Your Train of Thought

Your best friend will always be able to handle wherever your mind takes you. Even off the strange and often hilarious tangents.

You Stake Your Claim

Best friends are just that ... the best. When you find a person you like a whole awful lot, it's like a special toy or doll when you're a child. You don't want to share them with anyone else. Just remember, you CAN and SHOULD have more than one best friend.

You Are In Agreement About The Same People

In the words of Meredith Grey "If you hate him, I hate him." There's an unspoken rule that says you and your best friend hate the same people. No need for explanation, whatever the reason for the hatred, the feelings will be agreed upon and mutual.

No Matter Where You Are, You Are Never Lost

If you are fortunate to have a best friend, it doesn't matter where you are or what you are doing, you are home. All roads lead back to the person you love the most. At the end of the road of life, it's not who has been on the road the longest, but who helped you make it and stayed til the end.

They Don't Feel The Need to Sugar Coat

Your best friend will tell you when you are doing great and when you make poor choices in life. When you make mistakes, a friend might tell you to shrug it off. A best friend will tell you "I Told You So." and don't be apologetic about it. Sometimes, we need someone in our life that tells us just how it is, and predicts how your shocking choices will turn out. And because they know us so well, they are usually right, but also, still right by your side to help you clean up the aftermath.

Road Trips Aren't Torture

Collaborate with your best friend to make an epic Road Trip playlist and turn that Spotify up. Jam down the back roads and navigate through the traffic - doesn't matter, with your best friend by your side. A full tank of gas, rockin' music, and an unlimited supply of snacks makes for the best adventure and the most memories made.

Even The Small Things Are Adventures

No matter what you do, the memories you make with your best friend will always be adventures. So, go out into the world and make your mark on it. Press all the buttons on all the toys in the Target aisle, wander around a bookstore just to revel in the smell of paper, or sit on the roof and muse about the parallel universe your alter egos are currently living in. Doesn't matter how you do it, where you do it or when, memories are adventures best made by best friends.

You Watch TV Together

Syncing your tv shows at the same time, might seem extreme to those who don't have a best friend, but it's a pretty epic way to share time with a best friend who lives far away or is too busy to hang out often. Whether you sync the shows or just talk about it after you both have had time to watch it, television shows are bound to be a common denominator for best friends.

You Count the Minutes Til You See Them Again

Whether it's been 10 minutes, 10 hours, or 10 days, it's all too long to wait to see your best friend. You know you are best friends when you miss their face after being away from them for any length of time.

Best friends are the best thing a person can have. You pick a human and you choose them to yours. In retrospect, making friendships that last longer than a few months, especially as adults, can be difficult and harder to maintain. But when you have a best friend, you know that they will be there always and they are the only human on the planet you want to do silly OR completely ordinary things with.
