Fun and Unique Wedding Ideas

Updated on January 13, 2013

It's Your Wedding!

Wedding season is quickly approaching! With that in mind, I wanted to share some amazing and unique alternatives to the traditional wedding customs.

Your fiancé isn’t like everyone else’s and your marriage won’t be like everyone else’s. Make a splash and put your special twist in your wedding ceremony and reception. Say ‘No’ to the cookie cutter wedding’s that have been done over and over!

Here Comes the Bride...

If one or both of you are on your second marriage and/or you already have children, it is important to include them in the ceremony. After all, you aren’t just marrying each other. You are blending your families.

One or more of your children could walk the bride down the aisle. This is not a symbol of them ‘giving the bride away’. Instead, they are entering into the union as a unit.

All Dressed In...

If you aren’t interested in a big traditional wedding, how about ditching the traditional wedding dress idea? You can pick something that fits your personal style or theme.

On the other hand, if you’ve always wanted the wedding dress style but like little flair, change the color! Maybe your dress could represent your wedding colors while the bridesmaids wear white.

I Now Pronounce You...

If you and your fiancé aren’t particularly religious, why not ask someone close to you perform the ceremony?

It could be a sibling, good friend, advisor, or whoever holds a special place in your hearts.

It’s surprisingly easy to get legally ordained on-line nowadays.

Let Me See The Ring!

The wedding ring can be a source of stress and anxiety for everyone. Experts say you should spend two month’s salary on it. Really? In this day and age, is that realistic?

There are a few different routes you can take to avoid the unnecessary stress when you’re just starting out.

Have you ever considered ring tattoos? I agree it isn’t for everyone but it can be a beautiful expression of your never ending commitment to the marriage and your fiancé.

If tattoos aren’t really your style, another option could be to use a class ring or some other deeply personal symbol for the first year or two. After the stress and cost of the wedding has subsided, the two of you can pick out the perfect ring and save for it without the looming deadline.

You will be wearing it forever after all, so what’s the rush? Be patient and get the ring of your dream!

Let's Party

A fun and unique reception is a great way of showing your guests how much you appreciate them coming together to celebrate your wedding ceremony.

What about a theme?

Casino night is a great way to get everyone involved and excited! You and your guest could spend the evening playing all sorts of casino games without losing their shirts because it's just for fun. The one with the highest amount of chips could maybe get a prize though!

A Hollywood theme would be a lot of fun too! Everyone could get a personalized award for something sweet they do or something funny that you choose. Your guests might enjoy getting a glamerous red carpet photo with the bride and groom. It would also be really spectacular to see a 'movie clip' of the couple starting before they met and leading all they way up to the big day!

Cake is Good but Cheesecake is really Good!

The wedding cake is another place where you can ditch the traditional and insert your own flair and uniqueness.

If you aren’t a big fan of cake, why not explore your options? A few years ago it was very popular to use creative cupcakes in place of a wedding cake. That is a good compromise because it breaks out of the norm but, they really are still mini cakes.

What about a multi-layer structure of cookies? Each layer can be a wonderfully different kind of cookie.

A decorative array of Mini cheesecakes in a variety of flavors would surly please even your pickiest guest! Mini pies would be amazing too for that matter. The possibilities are endless when you let your imagination go wild.

Wedding on Weekday?

Have you considered holding the ceremony during the week instead of the weekend?

Everything from the venue to the food is considerably less expensive and more available.

It can be a scheduling nightmare for some but if you plan ahead far enough, most people will make the necessary arrangements to be there and celebrate with you.

Have Fun With It!

Planning your wedding can be as fun as the event itself!

Whether it’s your first marriage or you are blending two families, it’s all about your commitment to each other and your new life together. Make it personal and fabulous like only you can!

Did you ever considered breaking away from tradition when it came to your wedding?

Outstanding ideas! I also believe the more unique the better. One of my daughters was married in an outdoor park and afterwards we all walked over to a nearby restaurant that catered to the wedding party and guests. My younger daughter was married in a rustic Farmers Market that becomes a reception hall in the evenings. Both weddings were spectacular! Voted UP and Useful for this hub!

I'm not close to being married but I'm loving the cheesecake idea already. It's cheaper and more unique. I never thought of a weekday instead of a weekend but I think that's cool too- you have a knack for good ideas- great hub!
