My mom (the most important woman in my life) taught me several very valuable life lessons in terms of personal development and acceptance. Three are not fit for mixed company, but one certainly is. She used to say to me all the time:
You can't miss if you don't swing."
This was usually in response to my fear of asking for something in case I would be told no. Her wisdom was that you can neither get a hit, nor can you miss, if you don't swing the bat. If you choose not to swing, absolutely nothing happens. If you choose to swing the bat, you've got a 50/50 shot that something great will take place. Maybe not a home run, just a single....but a hit nonetheless.
