Is marriage over rated in America? If not, why are so many scared of it, like it were the plague?

Many are scared of marriage because it is literally a 50/50 chance gamble that it will work. And if it doesn't work out then the outcome is usually devastating- financially, emotionally, and for kids if you have them.
People are waiting to get married at an older age and there are more second, third, etc marriages than ever, but this doesn't cut down the risk of getting divorce.
I think the divorce rate is high because Americans are narcissistic and spoiled. We don't like something, we move on to something better, we upgrade EVERYTHING in our lives. There isn't a general respect for the institution of marriage either. It is not scared like in many countries rather a joke most of the time.

It seems that divorce is increasingly the easier option to trying to work things out. I would not recommend getting married too young before you know your own adult mind (my own personal mistake) and when you do find someone, take that commitment seriously.

Marriage is under-rated in The United States of America (and under fire).  Marriage is not respected or appreciated today.  Being married has become a legitimate fear with temptation at every turn, infidelity so easily accepted, long distance relationships, high stress schedules etc.  Some of us do not want commitment but others fear failure.

the love of money or the love of wanting money has scared many away from marriage. men KNOW that to keep a woman you have to have money and if you have money you can get any woman they want to marry them and that not real love.just about all marriage ended because of money off lack of it to buy what they want.and with the fed and every other business and con people getting your money. why marry

Choosing a partner for the second marriage is no laughing matter.  Every second marriage ends in divorce, think about it. What matters?  Dreams or reality? read more
