Do you think other states will follow NY in allowing same sex marriages?Does this bother you?

Be honest.  How do you feel about same-sex marriages?  It's been a huge point of contention in the U.S.  Does it really matter who is allowed to marry who?

I think that many states will follow, as they pretty much are already, and some states never will. Personally, I don't feel marriage should be an issue of states or government, but I have no problem with same-sex marriages. They have just as much a right to be tortured by marriage as heterosexuals, lol.

I really don't understand why this makes news. What people do with their lives should be their business. I don't have anything against gay people but shoving it in my face that you're gay really infuriates me. If you're gay, good for you just don't bore me to death with it. As for gay people getting married, if that's what they want let it be, but it really shouldn't be shoved in the news. They are more important things going on in the world to worry about than gay people getting married. You won't see heterosexuals going on about hetro rights and what not. If its your lifestyle, keep it to yourself, period.

As an Atheist, the "sanctity of marriage" argument has always cracked me up. Let the States work it out for themselves, since this is definitely not a federal issue. I imagine that slowly but surely more will allow gay marriage. I don't care one way or the other. Honestly, I think it is ridiculous to deny the pursuit of happiness to an American because he or she happens to be gay.

I suspect that it will eventually get pushed to the Supreme Court for an opinion of the constitutionality of denying the right to marry to a group based on sexual discrimination. The court will have no choice but to say that it can not be denied to one group while being granted to another. At that point all states will be forced to allow it.

Because it is a state sanctified civil contract with deep roots in civil law the argument of religiosity goes out the door.

So one way or another it will spread to all of the states eventually.

I'm atheist so none of the bible quotes mean anything to me and I have nothing against it.

from a canadian perspective it's nice to see that at least some states are realising that gay's should be allowed the same rights as everyone else. i don't really understand how a country where "freedom" is it's main goal doesn't allow gay marriages in every state .

They all will eventually, as they should. Land of the free. Who should dictate to two adults whether they can or cannot get married if that's what they want? Seems strange it's taken so long for this development to come about really...

Personally, i think there will be more and more countries agree with this law. I think every one has its right to determine who will be his or her forever partner, so what we should do is to send our best wishes to them.

Honestly, I don't approve homosexuality. However, I don't hate gays. I have lesbian friends. I'm straight, I love women's tender lips, their soft skin, their boobies etc.... I love women. I talk with gay guys without judging them. My gay friends know that I'm against same sex marriage but I don't argue with them when they talk about it. That's why we all like each other and are good friends! I always speak my mind and I'd rather be honest than be fake. That's me.

You cannot change who you fall in love with? As a young girl, I thought that everyone should stay with the opposite sex; however, as I grew up and found out that half of my friends were lesbian, I realized that love isn't based on what gender you are, but who you are with. People have a closed mind so they don't like gay marriage, after all it isn't in the bible. Religion is not separated from the government like it should be instead people are told they can't marry who they want to because of what the bible says.
