Why is it although we know what the right thing to do is, we often don't do it?
Maybe we chose to often not do the right thing because doing the wrong thing can sometimes make us more aware of our lessons in life. For some of us that's as simple as it gets. For others it may be simply because we like the excitement of seeing if we can get away with it, only to later find the consequnces may have destroyed us.
The human mind has a system for debating actions. Think of two columns. In one column there is a list of the pros of an action. In the other column are the cons of the same action. Now these are not the only variables in decision making. If they were, the choice would be a lot easier. Instead, the add ons are emotions. Now to each of the pros and cons in the columns, there are emotions. These emotions can be little more than a slight realization or a desperate passion. These emotions are the main reasons for our actions. Even though it is better to just focus on the pros and cons like in a disciplined mind.
Emotions and desire are stronger than intellectual analysis. They often lead to impulsive decisions as well.
Everyone chooses their own vices ( smoking, eating high fat foods, gambling, drinking excessively, cheating, lying, not making a complete stop at stop signs...etc)
Only a perfect person would (always) do the "right" thing.
There is no such thing as a perfect person.
