This would vary based upon how long you've already known this person and how well you know them, or at least think you know them. For instance if you met online and this has been your only form or communication over a short period of time, any questios on religeon and politics should totally stay off of the menu of items to talk about.
If you share a mutual friend and have been introduced and set up, this would still apply.
If you've known of eachother and are only aquainted not "friends" I would still not bother with religeon or politics. These two subjects are taboo even for people who have been married many years or even between immediate family.
Avoid religeon and politics like the plague at all cost.
If you have any interest in furthering the relationship or even the date itself, avoid these 2 topics.
Talk about forms of entertainment, such as movies or music. Sports can be tricky depending on the season and rather or not the date would be a hard core die hard fan of your rival team.
I wouldln't worry about any form of serious conversation unless you are serious about furthering the relationship beyond the occasional date. Or the date may end before it gets a chance to really start.
