Two things really stood out. 1) I only knew my husband for under 4 months when we married so the first time he got short tempered about something really stunned me. He was always in a good mood on our dates so this was a complete shock.
2) We couldn't afford a honeymoon so the day after we got married, we got up and he asked me what I was making for breakfast. WHO ME? I came from a very independent family where we fed ourselves and it wasn't necessarily the "woman's job" to cook. I figured hey - you're a big boy, over 21, why do I have to feed you? Frankly, I still don't get that.
Yes, there were some tense moments and some adjustments that first year. Worked out, it is now 42 years later.
