My parents have been married 54 years, going on 55. No matter what was going on, I've never seen them not sleeping in the same bed (unless one was out of town).
They stuck together through good and bad times, respecting each other, working hard, and being honest and trustworthy in everything.
My dad has a strong and decisive personality, and always worked hard and long. As an adult I can see how difficult it must have been for my mom to love him unconditionally and tie her life to him, the business, and the family, but she did it.
From their relationship I've learned that before you get married you'd better be darn sure that's the love of your life, because it isn't going to be an easy ride, and after you are married, you need to charge up in patience and understanding, because you are not going to agree on everything.
But if the core values are the same, and you truly love each other, you can work things out and it can be a fun ride.
