Why do most men feel that dishes and housework fall under the umbrella of 'womens work'?
Most men will go to work and come home expecting the house to be spotless. But, they will not help get it that way. I know there are some men that do join in to do the housework but not many. A lot feel that it is the womans place to keep the house clean and the mans place to keep the yard done.
It used to be that way because women didn't have the strength to do the manual labor. Especially in this economy where more women have jobs than men I don't think this is true any longer. My sons can all cook, clean, sew.mow and change diapers, tires, and oil .
My daughter-in-law leaves the sewing to her husband. They learned all that from their highly organized Dad who learned it from his mom. Thank God for my mother-in-law, her son's ability to clean kept him from getting court marshaled.
Because they never been raised and taught to do all those dishes and housework... it is something that has been developed since childhood....the same for women they never been raised to keep the yard done, to fix the plumbing, and etc...
It happened that way since ancient times woman wanted to stay at home and look after domestic activities while men left to face hardship ..but now technology as made life easy ...both men and women are becoming overweight chasing each other on treadmill.
I Was the only bread winner. My work was both mentaly and physicaly hard. When I came home from work, why should I have to start again. I do believe that, where both members of a couple go to work, both should chip in with the housework. Now I am retired I do very little housework, there is no point, whatever I do is never good enough and 'her indoors' always has to fuss over what I've done and make it 'perfect'.
I agree that if only is working than the other can do the housework to even out the work load. Being a homemaker is a job in itself, and so it works out even in that sense.
I have equal share of this responsibility. Since young I have been taught of doing chores so it is fine with me.
I am not sure that most men feel that way today. Many do, but I do not know how many. I have been married for 32 years and I have always washed the dishes. I do not like to cook--I have when necessary, but cleaning is not that hard. I do the heavy housework, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning blinds and some yard work. I do hire someone to cut the grass, but that started after I had major surgery.
I have known many men who cook, wax floors, wash dishes, etc. At one time, men did not do those things, but I think even in years past, men did more housework that they were given credit for.
Some people are like that, but, my stepfather washes the dishes, and he even does windows. He helps my mom with house work like vacuuming too. He's a pastor.
My husband does dishes and he washes the floors and cleans the bathroom. I work, he's a stay at home dad. It works okay, for the most part.
I must be the exception though... I've known about the people you speak of.

Does it matter that women are not equal to men? Why or why not?A fellow hubber commented on my hub "I am not equal in 15 states", "How has this hurt you? Why do you care?" How would you answer this question?

Why is it men don't pick up on subtle hints from women? They do, but they ignore them? They don't really listen? They don't care? Or women really have to be straight forward at the risk of injuring some of men's feelings, which usually women are trying to avoid by giving the subtle hints?
