I personally find the idea of not getting to know how someone lives before marriage is crazy. Someone who can be the perfect person for you out on a date may be completly different when living with them. The house that is always clean when you go over may have dirty dishes shoved in the oven, dirty clothes under the bed, and sheets that haven't been changed all year. The person may snore loudly, wet the bed, only shower when they are going some place special (a date), or countless number of other things. Unless someone is comfortable with all those unknowns they should at least sleep over several times a week prior to marriage in my opinion.

With a divorce rate hovering above 50% most people are likely to want to find out if they (can) live with the person before it becomes legal. As Peeples stated you just don't know what you are in store for until you observe their living behaviors. For me personally living together would be part of my "Due diligence" process in deciding if someone would be an ideal marriage partner.
I know there are those who believe if you live together odds are you won't get married. However statistics show in the U.S. that more than 51% of the marriages that take place are between couples who lived together. My wife and I were in that slight majority who did live together.
Last but not least people who (want) to get married (will) get married. Living together will only stop them if they become unsure after seeing how their mate behaves. http://dashingscorpio.hubpages.com/hub/ … ng-Married

Yes. To me that is the make it or break it point. In living together, my partner and I became stronger and more serious in the relationship.

having been there and done that... the answer is NO. living with someone with the intent to marry is an excuse not to commit to the other person.

I understand the reasons for wanting to live together before marriage, but knowing the person's habits does not help the marriage anymore than the commitment to work through the "challenges" together.  Commitment more than anything else is the reason marriages survive.
