We are all of a world together, despite our cultures and beliefs, should we be critical of others?
Do you think that, as a people of diverse religious beliefs, we should all respect other's beliefs and cultures.
We should absolutely respect others' beliefs and culture. Unless a practise brings harm to others, I see no reason for the practitioner to change their methods if it brings comfort to those involved. I would not want someone to tell me that I have to change my rituals that comfort and support me as a person; and, neither does anyone else. Tolerance - it's a good thing.
It's impossible for people of different cultures and beliefs to not criticize each other. Criticism is one of many tools they use to separate themselves from behavior they do not approve of nor want to "pollute" their own culture.
Generally speaking it is believed if one "respects" something they "condone" it. Most religions have the undertone that theirs is the only true path to "heaven" and everyone else is going to hell.
As long as one believes they are (right) and you are (wrong) the best we can hope for is "silent disagreement" also known as peace. Silent disagreement is a far cry from "respecting other's beliefs" and odds are they will continue to criticze each other behind their backs.
We live in a diversified world. Before we can even begin to understand we need to walk a mile in a man or woman's shoes to under what they go through or what their life is ilke. There are certain values that all cultures need to respect..
ladybluewriter, Would you not agree that (respect) is something one earns?
While we may expect a certain about of decorum or politeness from those we meet it is (up to them) to determine if we have (earned) their respect.

Is it ever okay to report someone here on HubPages, simply because you disagree with them?Isn't it odd that people who claim to be open-minded or tolerant, are very quick to report someone for abuse/harassment when no such problem existed? So we have a disagreement about ideals, that shouldn't...

Is abortion about women’s right or is it about the right to life?I get so mixed up in that debate, it would seem that the right to life outweighs any right of personal choice, but many see it much different. What is your opinion about abortion? What supersedes what? Do men have a right to a choice...

How does an Atheist talk to someone who believes in God without causing offence? It seems that no matter how politely one tries to avoid the topic of ‘God’ these days, there are those who will insist on bringing it up. Many atheists, myself included, find religious an extremely offensive and...
