Comparing gay men with women is a bad start to any argument. Why? Because both groups are stronger than you think. In more ways than one.
Also - Gay people are STILL PEOPLE - you seperate them as though they are aliens. The boys wanting to join the Boy Scouts are just boys also - they just happen to be gay boys...but still BOYS.
Now, from what I recall the 'Boy Scouts" are known as the 'Scouts" in the rest of the world. And guess what, this girl here was a scout - many years ago. So it's rules have be changed many a time, and for the better.
Why do gays want to be admitted into scouts? They are boys (or in countries less...seperated than the "united" states - girls as well) who want to do boy type things - open fires, knot tying, hiking, kayaking, camping, etc. They are still male, and they wish to do outdoorsy things. They more than anything want to be treated as equals to their peers - because they are equal.
Your stereotyping is disturbing. I know many many more Manly Gay men than I do "feminine" ones, and plenty you wouldn't know if they were gay if you walked past them in the street - because very few people fit the stereotype. Women in the army - I have several siblings - all female, all straight even - in or ex-military, doing or having done things like transport bodies - men can kill, women are strong enough to deal with the aftermath.
You seem to need to stereotype people, but in doing so, it says more about you, than it does about a boy who just happens to be gay wanting to do what his peers do.
I didn't like Brownies, so I switched - there were two of us in our troop who were female. One of the troop was even gay...though didn't know it then....so, it's not a new thing - at least not to the Scouts of the rest of the world. America just needs to catch up.
