    Do you find commitment scary?

I know a lot of people that are afraid to make a serious commitment, whether it be in a relationship or a mortgage. Do you find the idea of committing to something scary or intimidating, and if so, why?

Not when you want what you want.  When it's right you ................it's right!

I actually don't think people are afraid of commitment. In fact most people are "creatures of habit". There are many people who want to have the "option" to change without much hassle but very often they end up staying put.
I know a guy who rented a house for 20 years! It was a psychological thing for him. He never considered moving.
When it comes to relationships I have heard women in particular claim their men were "afraid" of commitment even though they had been living together for (several years) in a happy "monogamous relationship". If you compare that to Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries (37 days) of marital bliss it's hard to argue that a marriage license means commitment. A divorce rate of 50% clearly proves otherwise. It's been reported that (women) initiate 66% or 2/3rds of divorce! Maybe men are afraid of divorce and not commitment. hmmmm
Even with that there are 2 million weddings that take place each year in the U.S. and most of those happen after a (man) has proposed!
Kurt Russell & Goldie Hawn who have been living together for 30 years. Anyone who has been in an exclusive long-term relationship expects their mate to be loving and faithful. Being married does not prove a couple is committed to one another. It’s the staying together through ups and downs that illustrates commitment.
Only (time) can determine how committed one is.
    One man's opinion! :-)

I agree with you on that, but I really don't think men think far enough  ahead to fear divorce tongue
Maybe people are really afraid of change. What do you think?

Just about every guy has heard the nightmare stories of a ex-husband paying alimony, high child support, or forced to move out of a house into an apartment/condo. It may not be in the forefront of their mind but it's something every man has heard.

Yes, even signing up for a two year contract is something I would never consider because something could happen. You would be setting yourself up for failure if something did occur. Why would you try to harm yourself for the future? Marriage was a huge step for me. I'm glad my husband put up with it, but we were married three months before the wedding just to prove to me that nothing would really change.

While it is true that something may happen, it's important to really look at the likelihood of something happening. Without trying something you'll never know and I've always been told that we regret the things we didn't do more than what we did

I'm aware. But by shopping around, sometimes I can find better deals without contracts which saves money, and I'm a real money hog.

There's nothing wrong with that attitude. I've always wondered though, if you're always looking for the next best thing, do you ever really find it?

No. So you need to learn to be content. It's difficult at times, but having those that you love around you really help you get through everything.
