What are the Tell tale signs that someone is marrying you for Citizenship?

A lot of people are falling into this trap, how can they avoid it? They think their partner is in love with them, but sadly it's not the case. Most find out the truth once the partner has got that "Indefinite stay" stamped on their passport or Citizenship.

Well if they are not from this country it is a pretty good clue. lol Really I did know a guy online that married 4 women who were not citizens and I have a feeling they did not want him for his looks or personality.

Let us see,, about 11 and half years ago I dealt with this issue. My fianc'e did not get love. But she acted like she did. I had faith in her. And for some wildass reason she had faith in me.
I married her at a county place. We did not have premarital sex. We did not pronounce our marriage in Vietnam until we returned there and made her parents proud with a big 3 day wedding and reception in a hotel where the "ugly American was shot and filmed".

The poor gal married me for citizenship and fell in love with me. Poor lady sap.
We have a boy now and he is awesome and all three of us hold hands and just sit there in joy and cry over our love.

I do reckon we should protect our hearts. We should not let go and let Love. I am a total fool celebrating my tenth year anniversary and loving every day of life.

Yep she married me for her citizenship. Lucky damned me!!!

Probably the first clue is that they are more curious about where you live than they are about more personal things.
They ask too many questions about things that don't really matter in a relationship.
Of course it is usual for them to ask about the basic things like weather, culture ad such but if that is all they ask about its a red flag.
It is a good idea to start out telling them that you plan to live in their country and blow off questions about living in your country.
Finally if they ask a lot of questions about visas, green cards and getting residency that is a real red flag.
You should casually say things like if you should separate for any reason in the first 6 years they will automatically be deported. It may not be true but it will tell you things about their sincerity. If they come back with their own research that it isn't true they have already thought about what will happen when they leave you.

Well the the obvious of course, are they living abroad? Are you only communicating through the computer, phone calls, etc. I think anyone would be foolish to marry someone they haven't gotten to know in person for a lengthy amount of time. Not just 2 days after you fly them in. Basically, one must go by their gut feeling. They will know.

Signs that someone is marrying you for citizenship are:  They want to marry you as quickly as possible, will be overly nice and may even give you a massage to tempt you, the clock it ticking and want to get their citizenship done, the sooner the better. They may not want to talk too much about their own family in their country. Will ask about your job, if you own your home, to see if you are financially stable. After you are married, this person will do the bare minimum when it comes to being loving and romantic with you because they really don't have feelings for you (maybe need to have a few drinks before they can actually be intimate with you, or make excuses that they don't feel well), by this time...it may be too late for you to change your mind. My advise to avoid this situation is to have a long dating relationship, if it's marriage for citizenship they want, they will move on to a person who is easier to convince and manipulate.

A few "Tell tale signs," someone wants to marry you for Citizenship:
    1.  They do not speak English
    2.   They show you pictures of their 36 siblings, all naked, holding spears in their hands
    3.  They wash laundry down at the stream
    4.  He/she has a bone through their nose
    5.  he/she wears a veil, a turban, a burka, animal hides or sombrero
    6.  It rains after he/she dances
    7.  he/she is more comfortable, sleeping on the floor.
    8.  He carries a rolled-up throw rug under his arm
9   They carry the groceries home, in a basket balanced on their head
    10. They think a bar of soap is something to eat.
    11.  They travel by Burro, camel or elephant
    12.  They hitch a wagon to a bike and pick up people at the bus stop

This actually happened to me.  The tell-tale sign?  He asked me to marry me before he asked me out on a date.  My response?  Uh...NO!! big_smile

This is a tough question, but definitely a good one. I think it is wrong to make a lot of assumptions about a person only being interested in you for your citizenship. It's always good to have skepticism when it comes to any relationship, but becoming paranoid about any foreign woman who might be interested in you only for your legal status is a little crazy. Whether people like to realize it or not, we live in a global world now and foreign relationships are becoming a lot more common. I would say that if your are worried just to keep your ears and eyes open for any suspicious behavior that you find bizarre. The most important though is to always listen to your gut and if it doesn't feel right don't pursue it.

Well this is a very simple question, is the other person a US citizen or not?
