Are You Messy or Neat - and Why?
I am neat and my husband and his three kids are all messy. It has taken years of compromise on this subject for us to be okay. I am interested in finding out what other differences are in perspective about the world from people who are messy vs. neat. Why do you prefer being neat or messy? What is about either trait that is appealing to you? How has being either affected your life? Some say being neat is part of a "control" issue, and messy people are just "creative". Do you think this is true? I'd interested in hearing your comments on this subject.
I tend to be very messy but in my head I want to be neat but lack the discipline to keep up with it. My husband is messy, and one daughter is. I also have one daughter who is a neat freak.
I like order but dislike HAVING to do anything. I am sort of a quiet rebel and if I HAVE to do something, eventually I will let it slide because I grow weary of the discipline it takes to keep things neat.
Usually, I am not aware I am being messy until I step away and then look back at cooking or craft project or anything really and see that I have suddenly created an area that looks like a dollar store blew up.
Hi Duffsmom, I hear you..but It takes way more time to clean up a mess when you keep piling on top of the original mess. If the original mess is put away right away when you're done with task, it takes less time to clean. Thank you for contributing!
I disagree with the saying that neatness is about control and messy people are creative. I tell everyone I'm a neat freak, but it would be better to say I have to be organized. I consider myself very creative yet I can't concentrate and let the creativeness flow if I'm surrounded by a cluttered desk. I think being neat gets rid of what would otherwise be distractions.
I agree with you. I personally can't understand why some get so overwhelmed with the "keeping" up. I've noticed one of the problems is that when something is taken out, it doesn't get put back where it belongs, and then the problems mount up.
