midget......My up close and personal experience from tot to young adult with my only sibling was totally VOID of rivalry. She was 5+ when I came along. Her personality made it quite easy and natural for her to be patient and protective. She was my "idol" for as long as I can remember. As I have looked back, I've often thought what a sweet kid she must have been to spend so much time with me, playing, teaching me things and just putting up with a "little sister."
She started Kindergarten at 4 yrs. old....thus, she was off to college by 17, leaving me pretty much an only child at home and only 12. Our lives hooked up again as adults (married w/kids) and we formed an incredible bond, shared our lives with one another and actually were each other's best friend.
I have no memory of any rivalry whatsoever and I can honestly believe my sister would say the same.
The very most special thing about this? I will forever be so grateful for our relationship and bond. All those wonderful, warm and happy memories are all I've had to hold tightly to. We lost her 10 years ago to cancer. To put it mildly, I ache from missing her every day of my life. So much of who I was went with her.....and although I have peace and happiness, I truly will never be that same woman again. She was the best sister any girl could ever have.
