How does Same Sex Marriage affect you or yours personally?

People are debating what they really think about Same Sex Marriage on another question - and it occured to me again, no one has really said how they personally have been affected by Same-Sex Marriage - be it them personally, or their entire marriage. I DO NOT want religious debate over the rights and wrongs of homosexuality but how you have PERSONALLY been affected by it. (I will delete/shut down any nasty comments when I see them, and/or the question)

I know both straight and gay people who are married. Their marriages have had no effect on my life, or on my own thoughts about marriage. None.

Okay, I am going to give you my answer from my perspective on how I think same sex marriage affects people.  You're probably not going to like it.
To be honest, some people may feel that allowing people of the same sex to marry sends the wrong message to young people.  They might say that it encourages people that it is alright to be a homosexual, and they think that is wrong.  This affects the older generations because in their eyes, they see society falling apart.  They see family values diminish.   They think this: Man and women were created to be together.  I can give you an analogy.  As I said in another thread, men and women are like the power cord and the outlet. Plug the cord into the outlet and you have electricity.  But you cannot get anything by putting two power cords or two outlets together.  Men and women come together to reproduce as God planned.

Sounds like it doesn't effect (you personally)! Everything you mentioned is related to your beliefs about "society" and not about you & your marriage choices. Truth be told who your neighbor is married to has no bearing on who you love and marry.

Lybrah - thanks for your answer - but how does it affect you on a personal level? Also - what about those SS couples with children? It can and does happen it just takes a bit of planning.

It hasn't affected me personally in any way whatsoever. Therefore it's a non-issue for me.
As a wise man once said, "you can f@#$ buffalo for all I care, as long as you don't make me watch."

No one other than my parent's marriage has ever had any impact on me or my life. Why? Because I don't tend to go around minding the business of grown adults! Same sex marriage has very little chance of having any negative effects on anyone other than maybe the people in the marriage, after all marriage isn't a guarantee of happiness to straights or gay people.

Thanks Peeples for your answer. Do you think that a SSM will affect the children of that marriage (regardless of how they were conceived or brought into the family).?

Unless they are having sex in front of the children (same for heteros) then they will only affect the kids in the same ways that straight marriages do. Exactly the same thing to me.

The only way I can think of it affecting me personally is if my best friend (who is gay) gets to marry the man he loves someday. It would affect me because I would get to see someone I love dearly get married, and that's always a great thing. smile

It in no way affects my relationship with my husband.

Asked similar questions a few times myself on those very threads.

Have yet to get an answer that didn't have religious beliefs attached to it. The few that actually didn't were void of logic entirely.

I've had an answer that acknowledges it doesn't affect them personally, but that they think it's wrong, because their faith does. I've got a follow up question for that now..
