Depends on the type. I can say that depending on the type of man I am hanging out with, most of my friends are alpha males since they work in the bar tending/service industry, while I am the analytical one. Then some friends are more like me. The first group will speak of very little actually until off work, then it's what one would expect from a group of alpha males, giving each other shit, telling stories of sexual conquests or planning the next one. Derogatory jokes that question one another's sexuality and sports. Sometimes, they do speak of more philosophical or serious matters however, it's just the personality. In honest regard, they are some of the best, most loyal friends I have ever had. Generally, they never lie to you and they always will lend a hand.
Not to discredit the cognitive capacity of the aforementioned, my more intellectual friends are different. When we converse it is rarely of sexual conquests or which chick is hot or not, but, we speak more of current events, philosophy, science and other subjects, sometimes even conspiracy theories and the paranormal. It's nothing to subscribe to, sure, however it's still fun.
They say high school teaches us nothing. I disagree. You have jocks, posh and nerds. Now you have businessmen, aristocracy, and , well, nerds.
Everything changes when a woman shows up. With Alphas present, I generally don't bother interjecting or even listening to the conversation knowing that I won't get a word in that will be heard anyway. Again, it's not as if I am interested in even speaking to every woman who sits next to me, I accept man's behaviour because being that Alpha, it's just his personality. With my fellow nerds the only women that come where we hang out is women who are nerds as well, so you would think it would be different. It's not. Mental battles are quick to start, a intellectual version of the dreaded "One Upper"
Therefore, your question's answer is exactly what you would expect, there is no secret meeting and any secrets there may have been are no secret any more. It's when women are interjected into the environment that men change.
