I've been in a rather long relationship and along the way have experienced many things. I've realized the only way to work things out is by honest communication.
I would suggest that both parties need to sit down and communicate what is the joy and happiness that one gets from that certain practice and also why it demoralizes & depresses the other.
Understanding each others feelings is always the first step to solving the problem. Then the next thing would be to talk it through as how these feelings impact each of them as an individual and then as a couple.
Based on that you then have to work out if that practice in say is important enough to continue or is the feelings of your partner more important. When human emotions are concerned there is never an obvious right or wrong.
