The Best Father-Daughter Dance Songs Ever for Your Wedding Reception

Updated on September 22, 2014

Father Daughter Dance Songs - A Wonderful Memory Keepsake of Your Wedding Reception

Father and Daughter songs are fond remembrances of a childhood time with daddy's little girl. Create the right memory on your wedding day by planning the perfect wedding reception that includes a memorable father-daughter dance. The favorites songs heard at almost every wedding reception are the obvious ones, but what are some unique ones that we don't think about. Here is your chance to add to the list. Together, let's create a list of 1,000 songs. These songs should be the kind that any bride would love play while dancing with her father at her wedding reception.

When a young bride-to-be logs on to the internet to get ideas of a great song to dance to on her wedding day with her dad, she'll be able to see your song here and the reason why it was special to you. What a wonderful Pay It Forward wedding gift.

If you've never been a bride or you are the mom or dad of a bride, jump right in and tell us your favorite song.

Preparing for a wedding is tough enough. The music portion is a major part of the wedding plans. Not only do you have to arrange for the actual wedding music, but also the reception music that follows. Getting the right DJ and the right type of music that fits your tastes and is appropriate for the type of guests you are inviting is critical to a successful time at the reception.

What makes a great father/daughter song?

Most songs that are favorites are songs that have a good beat or are cheerful and get you up and dancing. However, a father/daughter dance song is different.

  • The song will bring back a happy time in both the father and daughter.
  • The song will rekindle a loving time and a favorite thing that they used to do together or still do together.
  • The song will bring a tear to an eye and a smile to the face as you realize that things are about to change (in a good way).
  • The song will make you feel that as a daughter you and your dad have a special bond that no one can ever take away.

A nice touch to the Father-Daughter Dance

The Shoe Box

I just wanted to share a personal note with you that I did with my dad on my wedding. Right before the Father-Daughter Dance came on, we placed a chair for me to sit on in the center of the dance floor. My mom walked me over and sat me down. Then she walked my dad over and handed him a box. It looked like a shoe box. He opened the box and there was a pair of white tennis shoes inside all decorated with glitter and the shoe strings sparkled.

My dad bent down in front of my chair and took my leg into his hands and smiled up at me and slipped off my high heel shoe. He then gently placed one of the new tennis shoes on my foot and tied the laces. The crowd clapped and cheered. He then went and did the same thing to my other foot and then when all the clapping had stopped again, he took my hand and the Father-Daughter Dance started. From that moment on I wore the tennis shoes until late into the evening when all the dancing had finished and my feet weren't as sore as I thought they would be from the long day.

I remember it like it was yesterday, and it was actually over fourteen years ago. Try to add a little personal touch to each section of your reception, the memories are wonderful and your wedding day will be a day to cherish forever.

I just wanted to add a word of caution here, about copyright. In the modern age when we want to video events like the father daughter dance, or upload it to the internet. You may not realise that both of these actions will require a license form PRS /MCPS, even if the video is for private use. In the UK, PRS / MCPS have begun to clamp down on videographers who do not purchase these licenses when filming moments like this. I agree with all of your list of what makes a good father / daughter dance and I believe that the custom wedding song ticks all of those boxes. I see that you list one of those companies in hawaii. We do them in the UK and they are not much more expensive than buying the license for a famous song and are much more personal, especially if one or both of them is not expecting it. Great lens by the way

Ok, tips for future brides - mmmmm . . . don't do it! Ha - only messin, I think the important message that I try to get across to clients when I meet them before the wedding is to relax, everything will slot into place in its own way, particularly where the wedding entertainment is concerned.

The Live Events Group work closely with a UK based magazine called Wedding Ideas and we often write articles for them one of which you can read here:

I hope you find it useful and as baby-strollers says, "don't forget to actually enjoy the day!"

Don't spend too much on the wedding. Have a simple ceremony and party, and put the money into your home or emergency fund. Then have a huge 10th anniversary party... by then, you will deserve it!
