Create Affordable Favors Using Votive Cups

Updated on October 28, 2014

Unique Yet Affordable Favors

These days people are trying to spend as little money as they can and still get the things they want. Having beautiful wedding favors or unique gifts for your dinner guests does not have to cost a fortune. With a little bit of work on your part you can have one-of-a-kind favors your guests will love.

You may already have a lot of the supplies to make these favors lying around your home and your garden. Be creative and use what you have or stop by your local craft store and pick up the supplies you need. These can be put together really quick and are very easy.

How To Make Your Favors

Making your own favors is very easy and will save you a ton of money. What you will need are straight sided votive cups, raffia or twine, ribbon, double stick tape, and an accent item. (We used flowers from our yard but anything can work). To put your favor together simply stick the ribbon to the votive glass with the double stick tape. We used 1 1/2" wide satin ribbon but you can use any type. Wrap the raffia around the cup a 2 - 3 times and tie in your accent item. Put a votive into the votive cup and place it on the table. Simple... Cheap... Beautiful!

Choosing Votive Candles for in Your Favors

Now that you have created your unique favors you need to put a votive in them. There are literally hundreds of different votive candles to choose from if you factor in all the different fragrances available.

What you will need to figure out first is do you want scented candles or unscented candles. Keep in mind that if you plan on lighting the candles while you eat, you may want to use unscented candles. Some fragrances are not ideal to mix with food, for example... rose.

You will also need to decide how much you want to spend on the votives. If you have a nicely decorated votive cup, a plain white unscented votive candle would be your least expensive option and will not take away from the look of your wedding favor.

Determine what size of votive candle you will need to fit the votive cup you used to create your favors. Votive candles come in a variety of heights with burn times usually between 10 - 15 hours.

Don't Stop There

One of the benefits of creating your own affordable favors is that you can take your creativity a step further and design your own large centerpiece with pillar candles to match. Often times it is hard to find exactly the colors or style you are looking for across multiple products. By putting together your own favors and centerpieces you can have exactly what you want. Better yet, it will be much less expensive than purchasing sets of matching pieces. If you have enough time and energy, you don't even have to stop there. Some other items you can decorate include the glasses, napkin rings, and silverware. Use your imagination, be creative, save a ton of money, and have a gorgeous looking table your guests will love.

Those are so sweet! The flower tied with raffia, or other matching ribbon adds a special touch.
