Fancy Dress! Dr Manhattan and Silk Spectre
Film Theme Fancy Dress Wedding! Dr. Manhattan and Silk Spectre
Me and my boyfriend were lucky enough to get invited to a fancy dress wedding! I went to University with Shaun and Jo, the newlyweds, and I knew that their wedding was going to be impressive when I received the 'Film Theme' invitation requesting fancy dress!
We headed off the the beautiful Botanical gardens in Birmingham, for a wedding that would certainly make a lasting impression!
I thought it was too good not to share, so here is my lens on how to get the Dr. Manhattan and Silk Spectre costume as good as this!
Congratulations to Shaun and Jo on your marriage, and on such a fantastic event.

The Characters from the Watchmen - Dr. Manhattan and Silk Spectre
This snazaroo blue face paint is the best that we have found for the Dr Manhattan costume.
Creating the Dr. Manhattan Costume
There is the option of a latex head, but of course, that wouldn't be as fun as doing it the hard way! If you are doing this costume, start getting ready at least an hour an a half before you need to leave for the venue, otherwise, you could end up running late!
The Bald cap goes on first. When you first put it on, you need to draw around the edges of your Dr. Manhattan candidates hairline. When you do this, make sure that you leave a little extra room - otherwise you might see strands of hair popping out! Then you need to glue it in place - snazaroo spirit gum is good, or you may get some with the bald cap depending on which one you go for.
Do check if you need to purchase the glue separately. The glue will go tacky when it has been put in place and that's when you need to stick it. Glue the edges of the bald cap down carefully.
White contact lenses will do a great job for Dr. Manhattan's eyes. It's better if you put them in first to avoid getting blue in your eyes! The blue face is the most difficult part - you need to make Dr. Manhattan's face blue BEFORE he puts his shirt on, otherwise it will go all over his white shirt! The whole of the bald cap needs to be covered in blue! When it is dry, Dr. Manhatta can get dressed in his shirt and suit.
Finally, you need to add the black dot on his forehead with a circle around it. This can be done with black kohl eyeliner.
These are the crazy contact lenses perfect for Dr Manhattan!
The mask is good, but can be uncomfortable and is not as effective as painting yourself! Only go for this if you really can't go through the effort of painting yourself blue!
Creating the Silk Spectre Costume
You need to be confident in showing off your legs to wear this - the hot pants are rather short!
The costume comes with boot covers and the belt, so you don't need to go to as much effort as our friend Dr. Manhattan! If you go for the wig (definitely a winner!) then I suggest putting your own hair in a ponytail or clip it up, and pinning the wig to your hair with hair grips. The net that comes with the wig doesn't hold it very secure.
Make up needs to be neutral lipstick, black mascara and blusher put high up on the cheekbones. Don't forget to add the signature beauty spot on the cheek with a kohl eye-liner!
