You may try meditation. The purpose is to clear the mind of thoughts. You can just watch thoughts as they arise and let them pass. See yourself as separate from the thoughts. Be indifferent to them. Remain unconcerned.  After a few minutes they will slow down or vanish. You can also direct your thinking instead of being on automatic. Choose what you want to think about and ignore other subjects. To stop negative thinking, you have to forget most of the world because they always focus on negativity. You have to ignore and forget the negative behavior of others and you have to let go of the negative commentary and complaints in your own mind. Let go of all attachments to thoughts.  It may not be easy, but the peace and freedom is worth it.

I feel that overthinking and negative thinking plague more of us than would like to admit. It is important to recognize your negative thoughts as soon as they arise. Once you do this, you can try taking ten deep breaths and focus simply on your breathing. Usually your negative thoughts will pass. If not, continue and do it again. We would like to think that stopping negative thinking is easy to do, yet these patterns of negative thought have been ingrained in us for years. It is hard to stop patterns that come so automatic. I have found that saying "thank you" silently in your head all day helps as well. This puts out positive energy to the universe and begins to train your mind to think in terms of positivity and gratitude rather than focusing on the negative thoughts in your mind. Trust me, I was raised in a very negative household and have worked on erasing negative thought patterns for years. With effort and concentration in the mind, it really can work. Don't forget, our thoughts are the ONLY thing we have control over. Choose positive smile

When you find yourself thinking something negative, you can try to replace it with a positive thought - anything that makes you happy. Positive thoughts are much more powerful than negative thoughts. If you are over thinking something, try to relax and let it go. I agree with the previous comments about meditation and taking deep breaths.

Negative thoughts drain you of energy and keep you from being in the present moment. The more you give in to your negative thoughts, the stronger they become. yoga is very helpfull to overcome from negative thinking. Yoga is very relaxing which helpe

Saumya29, the only suggestion I can make right now is:   Begin a path, a journey, of exploration in your life.
You might already know of a process called Vipassana meditation.   It is a way of finding your true self and becoming fully conscious, fully aware.
It ultimately allows you to examine, in your own time, at your own pace, as and when you need it, the true relationship of everything that happens to you in your life.
No more from me on this.... it is for you to follow up if you wish.  Vipassana Meditation.   Google it.

Just ten minutes ago I was reading an article about studies in neuro-science that show that intuitive people tend to take on the moods and emotions of people around them. Therefore, you might be picking up your negativity from people around you. "Being with someone who's upset activates small cells in our brain (called mirror neurons) that subconsciously prompt us to mimic the body language and vocal patterns of our companion...causing 'emotional contagion'".  Strategies when interacting with others can be helpful: 1.  focus on a single detail of your interaction with a person rather than the whole emotional package can help you to be supportive and yet "not catch" the negativity.  While you're actively listening, let your mind focus on some detail, for example, if the person always gestures to the right, or blinks. Counting those details while you're listening will help to lessen the emotional effect on to you.  2. Imagine a big emotional scissors cutting the bonds with the person.  That will create a mental "buffer zone" helping you to not "mirror" the person's behavior.  3.  While you're giving a person support, don't physically mirror your friend.  Instead of standing face-to-face, stand shoulder to shoulder while listening sympathetically.  This will allow you to be supportive, but again, not to have the negativity "rub off" on you.
(First for Women Magazine, September 2, 2013).
Recently a counselor told me to STOP listening to the news on the radio for 5 hours a day!  I am an auditory person and whenever I'm driving, I NEVER listen to anything but serious discussions on NPR or other stations.  The world situation is affecting all of us.  We need to be informed, but I think we need some space in between to help us be our most effective selves right now.  We have to "get it together" to be of help to others and sometimes that means separating ourselves from the tragedy for a while.
