Why do so many Nigerian men think American women are just plain dumb and unintelligent?
I'm married to a Nigerian man who I thought loved me, but I think he just used me, to come to the U.S. Since he's been here he has moved out while I was on life support and tried to put my kids out of my own home, then constantly said my things are his because he's my husband and top it all off went to my job trying to make me have to pay him. I'm not saying they are all like that but he's from Yoroba and I was supposed to go meet his dad but I don't think I want go over their!
You are so right and I'm already on it. I am a month a head of him.
I'm not a Nigerian man but I believe a lot of people living outside of the U.S. who want to come here see "romance" as a potential ticket.
There are lots of stories of men bringing over women from Russia, Latin, and Asian countries with only the (American) believing they would live happily as husband and wife.
Nigerian scams have become world famous for being so effective.
Google "Nigerian Scams" and a host of them will pop up.
Some countries see Americans as being rich naïve and gullible people who are easily conned. Online dating scams where women send money to men they've never met is the big scam these days.
You didn't mention how long you dated before getting married or how much (in person time) you spent together before becoming engaged.
Long distance relationships have a way of distorting time. A couple who has been "dating for a year" long distance may have in fact only spent 7 days together if that, in person! Had they lived in the same city odds are they'd never get married after only 7 dates together.
I believe the number one cause of divorce is choosing the wrong mate for oneself. Sounds like you didn't spend enough time with this guy to know whether or not you shared the same values.
There are only two ways to experience joy and peace of mind in relationships. We either get what we want or learn to be happy with what we have. Accept them as (is) or move on.
The choice is up to us! Best wishes!
I met him in June around the and we got married in November. I agree that was not enough time but we were together every day , but once he got here he just changed.
Tamica. NO, he did not "change." Once here, he became is REAL self. with his True Intentions showing! Accept that, pay the attorney and MOVE ON!!

Men, would you marry a foreign woman?I've recently added tools for dating and foreign brides to my website and am curious how many men would be interested in and actually search for a potential mate this way?

Why don't people in their 20s and 30s get married anymore? In the 70s, when I was in my twenties, men and women got married and, usually, wanted to have families. What has happened to change that?
