Do you think that female circumcision prevents girls from being promiscuous?
Cant say exactly bt what i knw is
The practice of female circumcision is designed to deny women sexual pleasure and prevent them being promiscuous and committing adultery in later life.
The tradition is not restricted to Egypt and neither is it limited to Muslim countries.
Female circumcision is a custom followed from Mozambique and the Ivory Coast to Syria and Saudi Arabia.
It is followed by hundreds of thousands of Coptic Christians, Catholics and animists as well as Muslims.
… Meant to prevent girls from being promiscuous? That is just an excuse from some men. The real reason that is never mentioned is that the practice was initially meant to seal that tool such that only a particular man can have it.
There are three types of FGM, and type number III is very barbaric that one wonders why we the world are still putting on a blind eye to this practice. There is an eyewitness description of type III operation in Somalia at this International Symposium page for those who may be interested.
Available statistics in some areas seems to suggest that there maybe a sizeable number of women who voluntarily are secretly making use of professional doctors to perform the type I operations on themselves and their daughters without alerting their husbands?
They should all have their dicks cut off!
I know I would belt the living daylights out of anyone I saw attempting it if that counts!
Regardless whether or not it prevents promiscuity, it is inhumane, morally wrong and as others have said, purely an act of barbarism to so attempt to repress the female of a society. When this is performed, a girl's chance at any normal, fulfilling sexual experience is gone forever. No one has that right over another. This practice may well fuel the opposite reaction. The young girl may be so traumatised by it all, it may numb her to where she no longer cares what she does sexually!!
Has anyone here seen the movie "Desert flower"? I was interested to see the movie because I expected it depicted the life of a Somali model, Waris Dirie. The movie depicted a lot more than I expected, I sobbed and my husband was in shock, he couldn't utter a word (after the unexpected scene of a circumcision of a three year old Waris). Waris became an important human rights activist; she abandoned her modeling career to focus on her work against female circumcision. If you can "take a blow in your face" watch the movie and read about her life (you'll find interesting info on wikipedia). This movie can change your day, month or even life! Unbelievable! And to think thousands of women are subject to circumcision every day - if you think the devil doesn't exist, watch the movie to rise your awareness and you'll be sure that it does indeed exist.
Absolutely, but do you know it is not exclusively done in Africa. Even in Europe, Asia & America also face this ugly act.
I believe whole-heartedly it would not only prevent promiscuity but also any kind of normal sex-life - it brings only one word to mind, barbaric.
Funny how nobody ever suggests cutting men's bits off to stop them being promiscuous?
It is totally and utterly barbaric to mutilate a child's body for any reason, and nobody had the right to try and control another person's sexuality this way
Unfortunately it does!

...ack!...at the OP....what a question that was...it is only about control and nothing else...just like 'rape'
The fact is, it is a culture in some places. The women ain't complaining because they have been brainwashed. Its irritating, wicked and bad to note that in these places were Female Genetal Mutilation place, their men go about their promiscous life without disturbance. So awkward. Something should be done especially non-governmental agencies.
Wasn't this adequately discussed in the Answers section?

No, I don't, all females are not sexually active or promiscuous. And I am for one. They need to do something about the old men taking their women hood away.It is our surroundings that make some people the way they are for other countries it's just a tradition.
Well said Patricia, promiscuity has nothing to do with FGM. Instead, the act is barbaric and a wicked way of denying women their God-given right. God help us
@Vox vocis, you re so right. I pray those who have the power intervene and put an end to this act. I can tell you, as i am writing this more girls are being forced to go under those unsterilized blades. Hoping for a change. Peace to you all

Do you think promiscuity and low self-esteem go hand in hand?I have seen many woman randomly give their most precious possession (their bodies) to anyone that would take it. I'm not one to police ANYONE'S sex life, but I can't understand why a woman would risk pregnancy, communicable diseases, and...

I ask this after I received what appeared to be a remarkably stupid yet long winded comment to one of my hubs written on female genital mutilation. The commenter said that it was fine and should be an accepted practice because it was similar to people in the West drinking alcohol, just another...

According to the article here, a Michigan doctor has been arrested and charged with the genital mutilation (18 U.S.C. 116) of two young girls, making false statements and other crimes. The "surgery" was apparently carried out in a Detroit clinic.Seems like a truly monumental battle...

Not just on hubpages, but our whole social structure seems to have a myth that men are more promiscuous than women, with the never ending stories of unfaithful husband and the much mentioned "Most men will screw anything" attitude we men cop all the time.... I want to know... if men are...
