Wedding Reception Table Decorations

Updated on May 31, 2012

Ideas for Wedding Reception Table Decorations

Deciding on your wedding reception table decorations can be a daunting task. It can also be one of the most expensive things you'll purchase for your wedding!

With the cost of floral centerpieces continuing to rise many couples just accept the $100 price tag.

If you're in the early stages of planning your mouth is probably hanging at your feet. But, if you've been at it for awhile you're probably not surprised. Everything wedding-related seems to be expensive.

The photo to the left is one of Martha Stewarts creations. What's great about this centerpiece is the fact that it uses simple, seasonal flowers. It also uses just one type of flower in a variation of colors. If a florist is putting together your bouquets it'll save you money if you use only one kind of flower. If you get that flower in a variety of flowers but don't care if all your centerpieces look exactly the same then this could save you even more!

Why? Because they have to order extra flowers to make sure they have enough for everything you need. And, since they're not certain they'll sell them, you have to pay for all of them...even the ones they do end up selling in-store!

Here are some affordable wedding table centerpiece ideas to help!

Floral Centerpieces

Wedding reception table decorations using flowers are generally the most expensive way to go. BUT, it doesn't have to be! There are a few things you can do to cut costs (other than DIY).

Like I mentioned above, sticking with one flower certainly helps. As does using flowers of the season. And last (but not least) you don't have to get a heaping centerpiece for it to be beautiful. Even small floral centerpieces are gorgeous.

Candle Centerpieces

If you're trying to save money candles are a great way to give your wedding style, elegance, and personality.

This probably works best for evening weddings. It's also important that you find out whether or not your venue can dim the lights. There's no point in setting the mood for a romantic candlelit dinner if the venue can't comply.

A candle centerpiece using several large candles can be extremely expensive...with one candle costing $10-$15 or more! But, one large candle inside a simple glass vase can be just as impactful.

Fruit and Vegetable Centerpieces

Like flowers, fruits and vegetables have a season.

Use these fruits or vegetables to your centerpieces for a dramatic look. They can be used as a vase or to add a little extra creativity to simple candle or floral display.
