The Boom in Self-Publishing

Self-publishing e-books is not a new thing. It has been around for a while but it is really seeing a boom in recent times. There are a plethora of devices and tablets that allow people to access whatever they want to read, whenever they want to read it.

This is fantastic news for the LGBT community. There is now so much available directed towards us, compared to a few years ago. Access and visibility are two of the fundamental aspects of our lifestyle that we lack on a day to day basis. Access has significantly increased therefore our horizons are broadened like never before, fantastic media and literature is no longer relegated to dusty corners of tiny bookstores.

The Gravity Between Us by Kristen Zimmer

'The Gravity Between Us' tells the story of Kendall and Payton, two friends who must manoeuvre the minefield between friendship and love. It is a fresh story and very contemporary. Kendall, is Hollywood's hottest young starlet, with the entire world at her feet, while Payton is her best and oldest friend.

Wicked In My Own Way by K King

'Wicked In My Own Way' is a lesbian urban fantasy novel by K King. It centres around Lucy, a girl who finds herself on a new path when she meets Kyra. Her world is turned upside down as she learns new truths about herself and her family. It is only a novella, the first in a series with the sequel out in a few weeks but it is a very promising start, encompassing drama, darkness, humour and heat in equal measure.

LGBT Visibility

One thing that I believe the LGBT strive for and ultimately deserve is visibility. I feel this is very important, especially for the younger generation. Reading stories and experiences that mirror our own is a fantastic and safe way for young adults to reconcile parts of themselves. I know that as a youngster I read books that had characters in that I saw myself in. The internet has helped make advice and support much more accessible, but books will always help. This is where I feel self-publishing is becoming amazing. I am in no way saying that all works are fantastic because believe me I have read some drivel but there are some fantastic pieces. Because there are no editors or publishing houses to get past there are less obstacles. No censorship to make things work for the masses.
