Let's Start at the Very Beginning...

Just where did the wedding cake come from?

Since the early nineteenth century, wedding cakes have been crowned with wedding cake toppers, which were nearly always miniature figurines of a wedding couple, a small fresh flower nosegay, and bells, hearts, or doves, made from gum paste.

Over time, topper types have evolved and one of the more desired topper styles of today are monogram wedding cake toppers.

However, before we can top the cake, we should explore just where the wedding cake itself originated.

Although no one can say with certainty, an extremely early variety of wedding cake may very well be the French Croquembouch, which means "crunch in the mouth". Croquembouch can be described as a tall tower-like pastry produced by stacking small, rounded custard-filled pastries (cream puffs), one on top of another, then coating the whole tower with threads of a hard caramel glaze.

Croquembouch was said to have been modified into its current manifestation by a French pastry chef, after witnessing an old English wedding tradition where sweet rolls were stacked up between the wedding couple, over which the pair attempted to kiss one another without toppling the piled-up pastries.

If they succeeded in keeping the rolls upright, it was said to ensure their future good fortune and prosperity.

To Bling or Not To Bling?

Shine on!

Monogram wedding cake toppers can be found in various sizes and font styles, in non-decorated, partially-decorated, fully-decorated varieties, with multiple color options.

Non-decorated monograms are typically straightforward, without any adornment. Elegant and sleek, only one initial produces a very unique impression on top of the wedding cake.

Partially-decorated monograms shimmer with detail, as soon as crystals are attractively applied to select parts of the letter's face.

Fully-decorated monograms create a fiery sparkle when Swarovsky crystals cover the letter's front surface.

Colorful monograms in dazzling metallics and hues from time-honored to over-the-top are available to fit with all wedding color schemes. Monograms also come in gold, silver or any other color, and can even be swathed in mirrored acrylic. A monogram font can be selected to reflect that found in your wedding invitations and ceremony programs.

If You Need Just a Little More of That Bling... - ...I have just the thing!

4 row Crystal Cake Ribbon Rhinestone Wedding Cake Ribbon
4 row Crystal Cake Ribbon Rhinestone Wedding Cake Ribbon

I cannot get enough of this fabulous rhinestone ribbon. It is gorgeous and versatile. Add it to the bottom of each tier of your wedding cake for a crisp, clean, classic embellishment.

The 4-row rhinestone ribbon refers to the number of rows of crystals making up the ribbon's width. There are rhinestone ribbon widths available all the way to 27-row widths, so the bling possibilities are endless! This product uses Czech-made crystals for a brilliant, fiery sparkle, a perfect accompaniment to your glittering monogram wedding cake topper.

The ribbon is sold by the yard (full yards only) and calculations will need to be made for the number of yards required to wrap all the tiers of your cake.. As a point of reference, the cake in the picture needed 4 yards of rhinestone ribbon.

Using the rhinestone ribbon with a crystal monogram wedding cake topper will add up to one beautiful wedding cake! Perfect!

Perfectly Simple Porcelain Monogram Wedding Cake Toppers

Ideal for a garden or beach wedding setting

Porcelain monograms are offered with diverse accents. Such adornments can consist of marine shells and starfish, making them just the thing for destination and beach-themed weddings.

Other options are floral and pearl highlights, with flower alternatives such as calla lily, daisy, hydrangea, rose and stephanotis from which to choose.

Unify the monogram's flower with the rest of the wedding blooms for a coordinated look.

Swarovsky crystals can also be added to porcelain monograms, with a rainbow of crystal colors available. Subtle and unfussy, these monograms are a suitable selection for the minimalist bride.

I Can See Clearly Now...

There are a huge variety of acrylic monogram wedding cake toppers in the marketplace, which can all be engraved with one or more letters, using one of countless available fonts.

Some of these toppers can even be lit up when an optional power base is chosen. The base has LED lights, which are available in seven different colors and are illuminated by means of two nine-volt batteries.

The base can be concealed within the top layer of the cake, leaving only the clear form showcased.

Our wedding cake was adorned simply with tiny white bells and doves. It is almost time for weddings to abound and I would presume that many couples are now busy hunting for their special wedding cake toppers.
