Acts of Kindness - Change Your Life
Random Act of Kindness
"A random act of kindness is a non-premeditated, inconsistent action designed to offer kindness towards the outside world. The phrase "practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty" was written by Anne Herbert on a placemat in Sausalito, California in 1982."
Acts of Kindness
I am so impressed by all the people who have written articles about positive attributes of living. I think writing about kindness is a brilliant idea. Over time I have figured out that it is really not the big things in life that are so important but the little day to day occurrences that occupy our lives.
I heard a long time ago that I should compliment at least three people every day. That is such an easy thing to do and I do not expect anything in return even though you usually get a smile.
However, I think kindness changes us in a positive way because what goes around, comes around. I believe I reap the rewards of any acts of kindness.
Definition of Kindness
The definition of kindness is: a kind deed; the quality or state of being kind and the archaic affection. There are also many synonynms for the word kindness and these are a few examples:
- Fuss over
"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."
Monetary Acts of Kindness
Now, I am not rich so my monetary acts of kindness primarily help my grandchildren have some extra money for their huge cost of college.
I also give to my church. At Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays we bring perishable items and toys so large gift baskets are given to needy families. We also help the birthing center that provides care to indigent mothers when they give birth to a new baby.
Certainly I helped my children when they were younger but fortunately they are all self-sufficient now.
I give all my used clothing to the Vietnam Vets as my husband served. I try to give some money to feed the homeless when I can also.
Simple Acts of Kindness
My kind acts must come in much simpler ways. I can think of so many little things that I can do without giving it much thought.
I greet my loved ones each day with asking how they slept and how they feel. I want them to know I care. I find I am happier when I treat others the way I want to be treated.
When I go out of the house, I always look a cashier or a bank teller in the eye and smile. I am courteous and thank them for their help. I often stop and let someone pull their car out in front of me if there is a lot of traffic.
I am not saying I am perfect by a long shot. I get annoyed when driving at times. I have learned if someone is tailgating me to move as quickly into the other lane as I can. That is not just being nice, but there are a lot of crazy drivers out there these days.
Self-preservation is not a bad thing. I always find a parking place where ever I go, and I wonder if this a reward for kindness. Or, maybe an answer to my prayers as I am having difficulty walking right now due to painful arthritis.
National Random Acts of Kindness Day
Did you know that February 17th is the National Random Acts of Kindness Day? This day has grown in popularity. there are some groups and organizations that now encourage acs of kindness.
I try to notice the blue sky, the birds, which I feed continually and the flowers. I am fascinated by the huge variety to small birds that come to my bird feeder.
We live in a beautiful world. I think it is good to remember how many people have more difficult lives than I have at this time. I thank God every day for my physical healing, for my family and my friends.
I pray for the fallen soldiers and the families that suffer their loss. I have a nephew and grandson in the Navy. My grandson is in nuclear submarines, and when he was in submarine school he scored high marks on all his tests. Out of 90 cadets attending this training school he was at he top of his class. I am so proud of him.
Funeral of a Soldier
Act of Kindness
I try to be kind to the elderly, even if it just hold an elevator or a door, with a smile. They always smile back. There is no room for racism. I try to treat all races and nationalities the same, whether they are Afro-Americans, America Indians and others. After all we all bleed the same color.
We can change the world if we care about our neighbors. I have given numerous grapefruit away this year as the tree has grown so large. Like so many people, I take food when someone has a death in their family or is very ill.
Remember people with a card on their birthday, a holiday when they are sick or just a "thinking of you" card. Cards are always appreciated.
An older lady I know has a neighbor who is helping do yard work. This lady's husband recently passed away and she said she needs to stay busy anyway as she misses him so much. However, she is physically unable to do all of the yard work. It is much appreciated and it helps the neighbor get through her grief process.
Picking up trash on the beach, helping a disabled person cross the road, help at a homeless center, and I am sure you may think of many more acts of kindness.
My husband almost always stopped if he sees someone stuck on the side of the road, or we saw someone fall in their yard. He doesn't even hesitate even though he may be headed somewhere and in a hurry.
Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
Random Acts of Kindness
I am touched my random acts of kindness expressed in the pictures below. I have been the receiver of a random act of kindness at a difficult time in my life, and it is something I will always remember.
Random Acts of Kindness
I guess we all have to figure out the best way to live, and what we might do to help others. I have worked on my ancestry for many years now, which is not really an act of kindness I guess, but it is something I can leave for those that come along after I am gone.
I think quite often many people are kind, but do not give it much thought. When you become conscious of the things out do each day, it takes on new meaning. If you have not thought about your daily actions and how they might affect others, this may a good time to evaluate your life and how it touches others.
