Start with a Wedding Budget - It Will Help Prevent You from Spending Too Much

Are you looking for budget wedding ideas that will not leave you bankrupt before you even get married? I have been to weddings that cost less than $2500, as well as somewhere the bride's family spent more than $100,000. At the end of the day, all of the couples and their friends had a wonderful time, and all of the couples were legally married. Having a truly special wedding is not dependent on how much money you are able to spend.

Consequently, I would encourage every bride and groom to make sure they do not overspend on their wedding. If you want to enjoy your special day, without feeling that you spent more than you could afford, your first step is to start with a realistic wedding budget. You can plan a lovely wedding on almost any budget, as long as you are willing to be creative and flexible.

With four grown, married daughters, our family had to learn how to plan weddings that were fun, romantic and affordable. If you are planning a wedding, you need to have a budget and a good book to help you get your plans organized. The first thing you'll discover in the book listed below is how to start with a budget that covers everything you need:

The book includes a $6500 budget, with plenty of tips to help people stay within that budget. This budget can easily be modified depending on how much money you wish to spend. Many charming weddings can be planned that only cost two or three thousand dollars, or even less, especially if there are only a few friends and family members who will be attending. There are lots of ways you can economize. For example, a large number of couples, including three of our daughters, choose to have their wedding and/or their reception in a private home. This alone can save a substantial amount of money. In addition, if you look for discounts on dresses, invitations, floral arrangements and similar items, you can keep your costs quite low.

In this article, you will also find resources to help you find a variety of affordable wedding items, including lovely dresses, gorgeous rings, party favors and even a low-cost wedding books which can provide you with additional information. Reading a book or two before you plan your wedding can help prevent you from making expensive mistakes.

The ultimate budget wedding guide, available in both paperback and Kindle editions. This book will help you set up a realistic budget and gives you practical, realistic and money-saving ideas.

Save Money on Wedding Gowns and Bridesmaid Dresses

There are many excellent companies, such as David's Bridal, that sell a wide variety of wedding dresses for $500 or less. Some dresses can even be purchased for as little as $100.

Bridesmaid dresses can also be purchased at very affordable prices. In addition, it is not always necessary to select an official bridesmaid dress. Often brides and their bridesmaids will choose sweet sundresses or cocktail dresses from a department store. This is one way to not only save money, but also make sure that the bridesmaids actually like the dresses they will wear. Bridesmaids are less likely to feel resentful if they have input into the dress they will wear, especially if they believe it is something they will wear again in the future.

While some brides are willing to spend thousands of dollars for a dress that they will only wear one day. However, many wise brides will choose to save money in this area, so they can spend money on things that are more important to them ... a home, furniture, or investments.

Dresses and Accessories for Brides and Bridesmaids

There are many places where you can find affordable dresses. The book above has a large list of sites. Among them are David's Bridal (both online and their stores), Amazon and even Costco!

You can find a variety of styles in both long and short dresses.

In addition, you may also want to choose something non-traditional such as a pink or other pastel colored dress.

Engagement and Wedding Rings

There are also online sites that sell an extensive assortment of beautiful wedding bands in every size. They have rings made from sterling silver and synthetic diamonds, as well as top-of-the-line diamond bands in luxurious settings. The choice is up to you, depending on your budget.

The good news is that there are a wide range of beautiful wedding bands available in all price ranges.

Wedding Favors

If you are on a tight budget, it is important to remember that it really is not necessary to purchase wedding favors for your guests. However, if you want to, here are some suggestions.

Party Favor Bags

You may also want to buy these inexpensive bags and fill them with your own "treats" as wedding favors. Inside you can put a jar of local honey or jam, or just fill the bags with inexpensive candy and a note thanking your guests for attending your weeding ... a sweet way to show your guests that you appreciate them.

I agree, you don't have to spend a lot of money to have a beautiful wedding.

@goldenrulecomics: One of our daughters had three college student from a Virginia music school play during the cocktail hour after her wedding. It was such a nice way to entertain the guests. Thank you for sharing your story with my readers, too!

When we got married my wife wanted a string trio to play during the ceremony, so instead of hiring professionals I contacted the local university's music school. They sent three graduate students who were superb for about one-third the price that the pros wanted!

@WriterJanis2: I love the idea of a desert bar rather than a full dinner for all your guests! I believe firmly in the idea of keeping it simple when it comes to weddings.

I agree about the wedding favors. Also, food can be so costly. Brides can consider a nighttime wedding and setting up a dessert bar.
