Saying “I Love You” With Flowers, Gems, Chocolate, Gourmet, Wine, Chick Flicks and Other Gifts

Love is an Action Word

There is a flower and a gem for every occasion. Chocolate goes with all of them. Some gourmet comfort food, a little ambiance, a bottle of wine and a good movie can make a special occasion or date night at home a memorable event. Keep the event simple or make it as extravagant as you like.

Beginning with the table, consider using what you already have in terms of tableware and linens. If you prefer, buy new tableware and linens for yourself or as a gift. For a theme such as Italian cuisine or a luau or a favorite sports team, paper products from PartyCity or similar retail stores will serve you well.

The center piece can be a fresh bouquet of flowers. Use the key at the right as a guide for selecting flowers by birth month, current month or anniversary year. Pro Flowers will deliver wine, chocolates and gifts as well as flowers. The Chocolate Source, however is the source for gourmet chocolate. It would be worthwhile to order any chocolates separately. If desired, formal invitations can be sent or emailed, and formal attire required.

Chicago Steak Company and Mackenzie Limited are excellent choices for gourmet steaks, seafood, side dishes, hors d’oeuvres, and desserts that are shipped to your home. Chateaubriand or Beef Wellington with twice baked potatoes and a green bean casserole for the entrée and a New York style cheesecake for dessert are my recommendations. Maine Lobster, Alaskan King Crab Legs, Chesapeake Bay favorites, Smoked Salmon or caviar might appeal more to seafood lovers. Chicken, pork and Italian sausages are also available.

Soft music, candles, dim lights and the smells of fresh flowers and gourmet food create a calm and soothing ambiance. Season permitting, a fire in the hearth of a rustic room would add to the soothing quality of the evening.

If it’s a birthday or anniversary celebration, use the keys to the right and below to match a gem and flower to the occasion. Of course a wedding proposal would traditionally be made with diamonds. A pearl set with a necklace, earrings and bracelet would be a good choice for any occasion. A charm bracelet with a meaningful charm that signifies a shared event or cherished memory is another idea that will also serve as a reminder of this special occasion. Wind the evening down with a chick flick from Lifetime or a thriller from HBO.

Kim--actually, not b/c it is my birthday flower, but daisies are my favorite flower. I like their purity and 'innocence'. It was the flower I carried in my wedding bouquet. And, sweet pea--well, that's my nickname for my 2 yr old grandson... Thanks for adding April, :)

There. It's fixed Denise. It's Daisy, but sweet pea is an alternate.

Kim-I enjoyed the information you gave but was bummed to find that 'April' was left out of your list of months for 'flower of the month'. I'm sure it wasn't intentional, however, that's my birthday month, LOL ! (I believe it is either the sweet pea or daisy-can't remember). Maybe an edit to stick it in (hint hint). Nice work.

Send me your address Micky Dee and I'll some flowers, chocolate and gourmet your way. Love you. Loving me back is not required. Although, taking the time to read and post a comment is clearly an act of love! Thank you for that my loyal friend.

Beautiful hub as always Kim! I wish I were still alive to enjoy romance! I'm afraid my real love life passed away. God bless you!

@e-man. I wish I could have seen your face when you saw that hub! I saw Micky Dee's comment on one of you hubs, and hadn't "seen" him for awhile, so I went to his profile page and saw his epigram to you. I wanted to stay up all night until you posted a comment, but better judgment got the best of me again and I got a good night's sleep instead. (sorry) Take good care of you e-man. Your kind words have become my daily sustenance.

..everytime I land on these hubs with my epi-man space craft I feel love .... and in particular with this one - hunger - lol - but I also hunger for your hall of fame comments and your support because without people like you there would not be people like me!

I just came over from Mister Dee's hub tribute - awestruck and frankly overwhelmed - exactly the same feeling I had when I saw your tribute hub (another greatest hub of all time) ..because it came from someone like ...you!!! And that means a lot!!!!!

Thanks Vern. I'm not sure I'd have room for cheesecake after the entree. I would wait til after the movie...but maybe just a taste. It would be good with a glass of wine. Thanks for the tip on Trader Joe's.

An abundance of handy information, Kim. A gem of a hub for those of us who might be a little ignorant at a given special moment or night.

Trader Joe's has the best New ork Cheesecake for only 6 something. Not very many ingredients, just cheesecake minus all the chemicals found in other store cheesecake.

I like knowing what stones for what year. That is cool.
