Signs that Your Boyfriend is Losing Interest in You | Is it Over?

Updated on July 13, 2011

How to Tell if Your Boyfriend is Losing Interest in You

If you follow the weekly questions of my Online Advice Column Dear Annabelle, you might have seen Paranoid's question about her boyfriend's potentially waning interests. One of the biggest fears in a new relationship is whether your relationship is going to go to the next level or fizzle. If you find yourself wondering what his next move is going to be, you need to read this article to figure out...

He Stops Paying Attention to you:

Did he miss your new haircut or forget your birthday? Do his eyes roam every time you go out to dinner. If a man is interested in you, he pays attention! He compliments what you're wearing and tells you that you're pretty. You're going to catch your guy checking out a girl from time to time (no matter how frustrating) but if they're doing it all the time; there's a problem.

He's Going Out with his Friend and Not Inviting You:

If he stops inviting you to go out with his friends, that could be an indication that things are going south. If a guy is into you, he wants to spend time with you and include you in his plans. The other side of this is that his friends probably don't have the best poker face. Without a doubt, his boys know that he's about the jump ship and your boyfriend is worried you might figure it out by their awkwardness (or even worse, one of them might spill the beans).

He Spends Less Time with You:

If your boyfriend is suddenly making a lot of excuses not to see you, that could be a sign that he's losing interest. He might cancel plans with you because he's very busy at work, helping a friend out or moving furniture at his parents... All of these excuses might appear legitimate but a man who's emotionally engaged would figure out a way to do both. There's no reason he can't pop by afterwards or at the very least call you when he gets home. If it feels like he's avoiding he, he just might be.

He's Losing Interest in Sex:

If the two of you were all over each other in the beginning and suddenly he's too tired or stressed from work to have sex, that's a sign. Men like sex. They like sex so much that they have sex with strangers and consider it a conquest. If your guy isn't having sex with you, he's either getting it somewhere else or at the very least, considering it.

He Cancels on Social Functions:

Couples do things together. They go to weddings, picnics, birthday parties, you name it. If he's all of a sudden cancelling on "couple" events, it might be an indication that he's not feeling like a couple anymore.

He Stops Calling:

This is normally the last and most crucial sign. If a man stops calling you there's a problem. A lot of men don't actually want to break up with you. It's messy. The last thing they want to do is sit next to us on the couch while we're crying. Seriously. As sad as it is, a lot of men just stop calling when they've lost interest. They'd rather avoid the break up and hope we get the hint.

My boyfriend and I have been together almost a year. Six months ago he got arrested and we were separated for a while with only home visits. Before he got arrested, everything was great and we were both really happy. I loved him and he felt the same. Just noting that we waited 4 months to decide to actually be in a relationship. Here lately things haven't been so great. He says and does things that he thinks are playful but really hurt my feelings and makes me mad. When I tell him he just thinks I'm stupid. He's been hanging out with his friends more and he has never invited me to hang out with them. Just the other day he said he would come over and I stayed up waiting for him and he never showed. The next day I didn't see him until the nighttime when I had to get a hold of HIM at his friends house to see him. Earlier he said he was starting to see me differently...but never explained himself. I really feel like our relationship is fading away and that he doesn't feel the same way he once did. When I ask he says he still feels the same. What should I do?

ok, here's my problem. Me and my man have been together for two and a half years. We have had our share of ups and downs. Hes cheated on me before and I have forgivin him and he hasn't done it since. Now we are both in recovery from drugs and he was court ordered to a year live in program. I am used to him always being by my side and now that hes not here I am always worried that hes cheating on me.or hes getting tired of this relationship. He always tells me he isn't, so am I being to paranoid or what? The reason I ask is because sometimes I call him and he doesn't answer or it takes him forever to text me back. Does that mean hes losing interest in me and should I investigate or just stop worring so much?
