Have a Natural Wedding with Green Wedding Favors

Updated on September 23, 2014

Decorate with Green Wedding Favors and Save "Green" at the Same Time

Be environmentally sensitive by giving green wedding favors (like seeds) and using green centerpieces (like small trees) at your wedding. You will save some "green", as in $$$, at the same time compared with the cost of using a professional florist for your centerpieces. You'll also send your guests home with something they can enjoy long after the wedding.

You'll notice that there is a new MyFairLadyah poem entitled - "How Green is My Wedding Going to Be". Please read and enjoy!

Be Environmentally Sensitive

You can "be green" and environmentally sensitive by giving green wedding favors and using green centerpieces at your wedding.

Trees As Centerpieces

Think Trees for centerpieces - small saplings in pretty pots - After your reception, one guest from the table (maybe a "contest" winner) can plant the tree for years of enjoyment. Or the trees can be planted by the couple at a park to make an environmental statement.

Small deciduous trees (magnolias, oaks, etc) may not have many branches, so you may want to select an evergreen that is indigenous to the region of the country where the wedding is. For example, Colorado blue spruce would be appropriate for a Colorado wedding.

Think Seed Packets in Clay Pots

Think Seed Packets, in clay pots, for favors - You can paint the pots to coordinate with your wedding decor or personalize them with Your New Monogram (Bride's first initial, Groom's first initial, Surname initial). However, standard terra cotta will lend a more earthy feel.

How Green is My Wedding Going To Be?

How green is my wedding going to be?

I hope to be kind to the earth

I wish for live flowers, for birds in a tree

For he and for me this has worth

How green is my wedding going to be?

I promise we won't make a mess

We'll recycle all of our dishware

We'll do it without any stress

How green is my wedding going to be?

The guests will notice a difference

I'll plant all the centerpiece trees

At a park where they'll grow as a fence

How green is my wedding going to be?

We'll have food that's from close-by and good

The squashes and lettuce grown locally

The chickens from the neighborhood

How green is my wedding going to be?

We are watchful with what we are spending

The green from the wallet spent sparingly

The bank won't make much on their lending

How green is my wedding going to be?

Our ceremony's steps from our party

That will save on the use of energy

And everyone will still enjoy hearty

How green is my wedding going to be?

I hope to be kind to the earth

I wish for live flowers, for birds in a tree

For he and for me this has worth

I love the idea of using saplings for a centerpiece and having guests take them home to plant. Great tips for having a green wedding.
